ALANTOO - Sad News

So sorry to hear this sad news. My thoughts are with his family and friends and I know from our conversation last week that you were a close friend to Alan, my sincere condolences to you.

RIP Alan

Sad news indeed, he was a very knowledgeable and pleasant guy on the forum. A sad loss to shooting and condolences to his family for their sad loss.

I am very upset to read this news.
Alan gave me some much needed help a few years ago.
Very good at thinking outside the box.
He will be sadly/ badly missed.
Condolences to his family and friends.
Ken.

Truly sad news.
I was fortunate enough to have met him last year when he came to buy my quad bike following an accident that stopped me being able to use it. He showed me his blaser sticks as a suggestion to make things easier for me and I was humbled by his kindness to help.
A true gentleman, RIP Alan

Very sad news indeed, he always gave us his very best advice that was well researched and considered. I will miss his input into this forum tremendously. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Alan and I had been talking via pm for some weeks about his situation. I’m sad but also kind of relieved he’s gone as he was in a great deal of pain. Very sad end to a distinguished artisan with a worldwide reputation for excellence.

Alan and I had crossed swords on here many times (excuse the bad pun), but we always come out of it ok. A while back I teased him about being up at ungodly hours, and asked him if he was ok.

Alan got in touch privately. He wasn’t.

What followed was a remarkable conversation with a man who knew he was dying. I guess we had something in common in that he knew I’d had stage 4 cancer and somehow gotten away with it. That was 13 years ago. We got right into the nitty gritty of his situation, he wasn’t afraid to tell it as it was. His situation was terminal, a one way ticket. We talked about a range of important and urgent issues - his partner’s wellbeing, finances / wills, pain relief, acceptance of the situation. He carried himself with extraordinary dignity.

Alan married his partner of 38 years Lesley earlier this month. I feel very sad for her right now. Alan was a brave man.

Rest in peace mate.

Just stumbled across this thread. What terribly sad news. I spoke to Alan privately a number of times over the last couple of years, usually because I needed some advice. He always gave it willingly. Sadly never met him in person, but clearly a knowledgeable, generous and kind soul. An enviable way to be remembered. Condolences to his family and those lucky enough to have known him better.

Very saddened to hear of Alan’s death but thank you @wytonpjs for letting everyone know. Alan was knowledgable, wise and kind - and always quick with an offer of help or some sage advice. A much respected member of this forum and a real gent to boot.

Very sad to hear this news. Although I didn't know Alan personally, he came across on here as a most gentlemanly and civilised person. RIP Alan and deepest condolences to his family.
