Aldi Trail Cam review

Hopefully this may work!

I just get "this video is private" :(

I have also experienced the split image issue, but I just changed settings to 1 photo plus video and that has worked fine. Badger has been nervous of LED shine, but not enough to keep him away from his excavations.

Useful to know this workaround. I also had no problem on default setting (single photo). It seems the camera doesn't handle multiple photos well. Lets hope Aldi/Maginon can fix this with a firmware update.

I was pleased with the photo quality, but frustrated with the other problems, which suggested a lack of thorough testing, and/or poor quality control. I may also have been very unlucky with my two samples (batch problem ?).

Used within its limitations, and once you learn how to let it boot up properly, it is an excellent device and many users will be very happy with it, particularly for the £70 price.

I want to take multiple photos, and need the LEDs to be invisible to human eyes, so I will have to save up a bit more for a more suitable camera.

We got a few decent photos from ours, but many more where they were triggered too late to see what it was that been there. They're definitely not the best cameras in the world. Haven't had the split screen issue with ours though!

One top tip for other Aldi trailcam owners is to take a camera and a fresh SD card with you when you check the trailcam. That way you can switch out the SD cards, and check the photos using your camera. I find it easier to browse through the photos and zoom in that way, and it also saves you having to click the trailcam on and off the battery pack.

TT, I'm guessing that you have a previous model AldiCAM. Your photos are dated from before 19th June 2014 which was when the MK3 was released, and the info. displayed at the bottom of the picture looks different.

Also the current model doesn't click on and off the battery pack, it is permanently attached by a hinge, and the back also has to be opened to remove the SD card.

It is a pretty hopeless design because you either have to review photos in-situ, (crouched by tree trunk or wobbling about on ladder etc.) or remove your mounting straps etc. and then faff about to strap it back up again afterwards.

Best as you say to swap SD cards and fresh batteries, then review later on PC, camera etc.

I use an Android tablet, with OTG cable and SD card reader.

I think you are describing the previous version which was a copy of the Ltl Acorn, with a bottom hatch to change the batteries or SD card without disturbing the mounting. A much better design IMHO and much less chance of water ingress due to leaks, or simply having to open the back in wet conditions.

Current Aldi model is totally reliant on the gasket sealing properly. Ltl design will probably be ok even if gasket leaks, as hatch is at lowest part of body. On current Aldi model all the cells are in the back part. On the Ltl design the first 4 batteries are inside the main body and removable through the bottom hatch, along with the SD card.

If you don't need all 8 cells, I suggest stuffing silica gel sachets into empty compartment to ensure camera stays bone dry and fog proof.

Very possibly, we got ours in April.

Quite a few at Towcester this morning. Was there at crack of sparrows and there was a queue of people at the door. Four guys headed straight for the chainsaw deal but no one else for the trailcam.

Set mine up for a test in the garden. Nice and easy to set pup. If the results are as good as the first impressions I will be pleased.
same here, got one tonight and still got some for sale at towcester. had some real good results when they first sold them, so ive bought another. running 2 must be good or not so for the fox population !!!!

I guess I must have an odd Aldi Maginnon, even a 16mb card only records 30 mins and so many video bits with nothing there ?

Bought a couple about a year ago - - they have done a great job for me. Sadly one got stolen a couple of weeks ago by some toerag !

I would highly recommend them - - esp for the price.

Hi JRoe............I have 2 which dont seem to want to record anything! I have tried one set for pictures and one for video on a timed period of 2 1/4 hours and neither seem to record anything although we have a lot of activity that we have observed by eye. Any advise that you or anyone can offer would be excellent

Are you setting them too high, they seem to have a good vertical field but limited horizontal, I had to move mine down low.

Thanks K333Roe for the advice, I have tried various heights at night and the hedgehogs are not "seen" although we have been able to see them from the house. Lots of video and pics in the morning .....5 am onwards when the crows, magpies, blackbirds, thrush etc appear..........just so frustrating, we know the camera video is on and working cos we have walked across to see if we are picked up and we are!

had a couple of tails in photos because it went off too late
but to be fair a grey squirrel at full chat is hard to capture even with a 12 bore
