Allopurinol

I eat and drink anything I like or want,
Just be warned, the first two weeks of Allopurinol treatment can be agony!, Allopurinol searches out deposits that are not actually bothering you at the time of medication starting… but if you can muscle through you will be free of Gout!

Father had gout, my how we laughed; sister got it - she stopped laughing; brother got it - he stopped laughing too. Then I got it - stopped me laughing for sure. I don’t take anything for it as I am already rattling with the meds I am on so suffer once a year or for a day then a quick blitz of Steroids and colchicine nail it pronto.
Lots of pals on Allopurinol without issues but be aware starting it can bring on a gout attack….

Well I got my Uric Acid reading today which was 5.5 ....on research this is normal so told Dr Im not going on allopurinol for now.

They are referring me for guidance to see if my wound and tophi can be treated.

See what happens but dont want to go on lifetime medication if I dont have to but obviously an option in the future.

I use high strength Vitamin C tablets to treat gout. I take two 500mg slow absorption tablets per day. Works great for me - I suggest give it a try.

My Father had it despite a pretty Puritan diet and hardly drinking, I got it first about 25 years ago with a much less Puritan outlook....tried braving it out but suffered and knuckles and toe joints got quite swollen. Went on Allopurinol in 2017, not had a twinge since and fingers and toes almost back to how they were. No side effects at all and no long term organ damage. Get on the Alli!

Off to doctors this afternoon for a blood test to check uric acid level and then put on Allopurinol.

Anyone taking this on here and have suffered any side effects ?

Don't really want to go on lifelong medication but I have a tophi lump on my toe which has emerged through the skin creating an open wound which won't heal.
That wound is much more of a concern than taking a daily drug, get on the pills, you may find over time the lump goes.

Balance of risk between of not taking a prescribed drug is best in the hands of the doctors . Discuss with you GP about the effects of not taking , they will explain the likely outcomes either way , heck if your still not sure ask for a second opinion from a different Doctor Not The stalking directory

Wrong there people been on it with experience of 30’years taking the drug

I was taking allopurinol for a while but stopped due to it making me extremely tired, felt like I'd been awake days! I ended up stopping taking it and tried to adjust my diet, although its not too bad anyway!

The last few days ive been thinking im going to get a flare up, as the joints in my toes and fingers are getting pretty sore!

Don't blame you and stop off them as long as you can, I hate taking any meds if I can help it but unfortunately I don't have an option or so they tell me
