Always wondered why Lada Nivas rusted

Once went to the garage to ask if they had an exhaust for a Lada Niva;
After a couple of seconds, the sales man said, "Sir, I think we can make a deal". :coat:

When a University I had a Triumph Vitesse 6 that the chassis, underneath, every year, when it went up on the ramp for its annual MoT Test, had so much yellow chalking on it that it looked like a map of the Circle Line.

I’m intrigued to know which one Tim. I used to live down the road from the one at Smith’s farm Allshots if I remember rightly. Happy memories tearing bits of old cars to fit to my even older ones!

Canvey...........Sat, Tue ritual with the 7.5 Ton Dodge and Trailer lol....

I got there early one day and was asked to go in the office!! John who ran a huge yard in London had asked if I could buy cars for him as he could not make it. He liked all the odd ball stuff, burnt out Renault 12's Lancia's been run over but a train etc....
So I did...most I used to buy would be a 2>3 after I got to 15 cars one of the lads came up to me asking if I was feeling ok? think I brought 23 lol...He rang my yard in the week to say thank you.
Bob Holland was the auctioneer who is sadly no longer with us...
That Shadow 1 flared arch was one of the first jobs I did in that shop...new wing was £887....leaded into the scuttle and front panel, blended down the side and into the bonnet. Still got the old n/side head light bezel lol
Re cabbed a Renault 7.5 tipper and had to copy the stickers in paint as they were a fortune...20191229_163858[1].webp

Tim

I’m sure that is where my Chrysler 300crd was made and the underside does not look how a modern 10 yr old car should! Still it’s very quick for a hearse!
Hi
Yes I believe the 300c was made in the same Austrian factory. The SRT8 would make you smile :D

That Mercedes diesel engine is a peach but as you will know not without issues. Oil cooler seals that cost £15, but hundreds of pounds in labour charges to replace, because some dummkopf at Mercedes thought it a good idea to put the oil cooler right at the bottom of the 'V' of the cylinders. And also the idiots at Mercedes that decided not to give you a dipstick for the Tranny fluid.

Im sure i saw Putin at 8:26 working a casher.
Must be 1/2 ton of self tappers used per vehicle.

It is at the point now where it can go to the car heaven in the sky if that happens! I only hang on to it because it’s massive and quite fun on a long trip, does under 10k a year so I’m hoping the engine will be the last thing to give up. I’m resigned to a £600-£1k bill per 18 months for something (front suspension where everything has seized, discs etc) but until the engine goes it doesn’t seem worth getting rid.

I have to say I quite like it and never thought I would. It was about the best option that I could have a rear facing child seat behind me and still have leg room for my 6’4 frame.

Next time I will be after the SRT8! Why not!

I used to have one in the 80-90's thin tyres and door seals I made of garden hose to keep the cold water out and the warm water in !! but there were more than a few Rong Rovers that I pulled across field that got stuck as soon as they drove off the tarmac  As to s1-2 Landrovers  they paid most of my bills back in the day and kept the bank man happy ,so I thank them for rotting so fast as they did , And a few crispbags ( Land Rovers ) saved us a bunch of money as we used there rotten steel and powder body's as substructure when building the 100 yrd backstops at our ranges along with a few comer vans and 90 rovers and 170 tonnes of thanet sand .
Thanet? Whereabouts was that? anything to do with Colin Smith the gunsmith and the range near Ash?

Hi Bavarianbrit.
Am I correct in thinking the monocoque is just bare steel then and not galvanised?

My Jeep was made by Magna Steyr in Austria and was showing rust issues so had to have the underside treated. Not good on a relatively modern vehicle.
I think yes as the ruskies are not well up on galvanised steel bodymaking.
