Ammo suggestions for .270

Hi Dan, thanks for your reply. I’ll be totally honest and say that my experience with Vmax is limited to scrolling through the, often controversial, threads on here. As someone who uses them, what are your thoughts on their performance as far as species/shot placement is concerned.

I wouldn't be lying when I reckon we have fired upwards of five thousand of these rounds on everything thing from hoodie crows to 25 stone Red Stags and they have never been an issue. Flat enough at sensible ranges and accuracy has never been an issue. They will drift in a cross wind like any bullet but the difference in POI between a 110gr Vmax and say a 130gr SP is, in my opinion, not a deciding factor.

Its the nut behind the bolt that gets the job done.

Just wondering what recommendations any of you might have for factory .270 ammo?

Ideally it would tick all the boxes you’d hope for in a .270 - fast, ‘flat’ etc. but also something which bucks the wind well, and is also well suited for taking the occasional neck shot alongside the conventional boiler room shot.

All and any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have a wee bit more confidence with Norma 130 grain soft points on bigger beasts.
With the 110 Vmax I wouldn't be wanting to hit a shoulder on a big Stag.
Wouldn't say the 110 Vmax causes any more meat damage. Whats important is a dead beast quick and clean.

I used to use 110gr v max in mine but they just cut roe deer in half. Soft points were the same. I use 110gr Barnes TTSX now. Far less damage and nearly everything (2-300 deer) drops on the spot.

I’ll try out some of the suggestions you’ve come up with and see which one ends up being the one that my rifle likes and performs the closest to what I’m after.

Sako or Norma with the 110gr bullet I forget which bullet it is but they are brilliant on deer. i can hear others starting to scream but try and make your own mind up
