You can but it’s a collet die so it won’t size the neck correctly if you do so, the neck needs to be compressed against the mandrel. I have used these dies for a year or 2 now, trust me it can’t be done without removing the pin section permanently.

Ugh what a ball-ache! I'd assumed that the collect die was basically the same as the Lee Loader die, but now that I think about it, the fact that it's a mandrel not a rod does underline your point!
TBH I do the same, but I do re-crimp with a Lee FCD. My experience is that accuracy is unaffected. 100 yards is the farthest I can shoot easily (that's the limit of all the local ranges) and all my shots at deer are closer than that.
