Someone not a million miles from your location and who has a lot of dealings with boar to the point of disliking them intensely was telling me something very similar a week or so ago. He said that the boar will ignore the dogs and charge straight for the man. Don't forget also that a boars mouth is like a drain, full of harmful bacteria so not a good idea to tangle with them.

I have nocturnal boar visits frequently, late last year a sow and followers trooped into my yard and up to the front door, my dogs were going ballistic, the boar didn't take a blind bit of notice!

There are plenty of folk round here for which the boar novelty wore off a long time ago!
