And we worry about lead.

The whole thing seriously boils my urine , something seriously wrong with the system and a crime against humanity if younger would take up politics.
I think that you shouldn't be able to go into politics until you've actually had a job for at least 20 years first😂 Make them actually have a clue about real life first before they start telling us how we should buy an energy saving kettle from Argos to help with the crippling costs of utilities (which as they work partly from home get to claim back anyway).

Never considered myself a greenpeace type or tree hugging bunny lover, but looks like were in some respects ahead of their time. Why poison your own rivers unless it cannot be avoided yet pledge on world scale to fight climate change, use electric cars, and ban lead shot, total con😡
Yeah, water, the life blood of the planet & look what we do to it, from small streams to vast oceans,, I'm fortunate enough to have caught huge Kingfish in New Zealand, Tuna in Cape Verde & Sea Trout in UK & Ireland, I wonder if my kids & grand children will. :old:

I've caught perch from Loch Neaton and there's no chance of my grandkids catching any, the Eastern Europeans have eaten them all, along with the pike....

I live near a town in South Lincs which has doubled in size with new houses. I have yet to see any new capacity.constructed at the sewage treatment works. As our water authorities are mainly owned by foreigners in the EU why not just take them back in house.
Same near me. Take the bow wow for a walk near my hometown which has trebled in size and still the same sewage works from the 60’s…all main drains you walk past smell of it and the beach is covered in all kinds of stuff.

Small island many botties and increasing every minute, think our rivers in uk sacrificed in long haul otherwise why reverse all the good work done, example Tyne, wear and Thames.
Habitat improvements driven by game conservation been going on for many moons and now done across the board from hedge pig to insect, farm to garden.
Guess we historically could have slowed population increase down but only bought more time so it don’t look good for us, deer or fish, first two shagging themselves to a stand still, lead shot 🤣

One other aspect is, that many third world countries who used to take our waste do not take it anymore, in fact a few of them sent it back to us. So at the moment it is far cheaper to fly tip the waste than to have it carted away by the refuse firms, who sell a lot of waste on, which then comes back , it's a viscious circle, and it usually ends up in the rivers. Whilst we were in the EU the rivers were looked after, grants were available, now they are not, and Govt's don't seem interested in spending money to keep them clean, the irony is we get fleeced by the water companies yet they are not interested in keeping the waterways safe and clean, many have been fined for sewerage leaks, and still manage to make bumper profits.

Thank you Fadcode, summed it up in a nutshell. Protecting corporations & shareholders, & rewarding them seems to be the main objective of this Government. Its the same in the energy market, the argument for taxing them harder is that it will curtail profit & investment. Investment is something that can appear in accounts, but seldom becomes a reality. Profit uber alles, & we are a very lucrative crop.

And in the year 2020/2021 there were 6079 sewage flooding incidents. Water companies reported a 15 per cent year-on-year rise in external sewer flooding incidents in 2019/20, with the number of homes flooded by sewage up 14 per cent. The figures were included in the latest annual report from consumer watchdog, CCW, which said they underlined the need for water companies to accelerate their response to climate change.

I would just like an answer a few questions.
1. Infrastructure:- How can so much be wasted on a frivolous project that will be obsolete before it's complete, just to get us London to B'Ham 20 mins quicker, a complete disaster to our food producing land.
2. How can the idiots in local or national gov't allow the building of millions of houses (most of which here seem to be four or five beds) without thinking of coping with sewage and water supply.
3. Why are so many large hotels stuffed full of boat people and other illegals when we pay "Our friends in Europe" to stop them. Why dont we just tow them back, instead of throwing away so much money.
4. Why are we sending aid to so many countries when we need the money here. Some of them have nuclear capacity but are still ruled by caste classes.
5. Why are the squabbling idiots that have been put in power not seeing all this and doing something about it instead of letting foreigners own most of our facilities and pay out obscene sums to their CEO's and shareholders.
I could go on but having seen the best of it ref fieldsports in my time on earth, I shall be quite happy to depart before the s..t really hits the fan.

sewage works are very complex and have treatment limits set by the Enviromental agency. were the problems are occurring is in storm conditions. The amount of water entering sewage works that it can treat and the amount of storm water it can hold in the works. once it reach's capacity it then goes to the river in storm conditions. Due to the large no of new developments of housing etc... most of the sewage works cannot cope with the storm surges. these works all over the country would probably need to be trebled in size to deal with this problem. This is not a quick fix will take years to sort out. don't forget we had 10 million people move into the country from Europe etc. that were never planned for with infrastructure. , hospitals transport ect

Feargal states that the companies have been paid over 30 years to meet their legal obligations. Where has the money gone? where is the work being done. Whats missed is mystery, what's s**t is dysentry.

Anybody with any sense now's how complex sewage treatment is. Handling storm flows is a different matter with outflows going direct to water courses in most cases. Obviously with the large number of new developments the sewage works should have been extended or new ones built prior to this. Yes it will take years to fix because the water authorities going private and taking over the water, storm and foul sewers etc for free haven't spent anything. They pay out large dividends and do not reinvest in the basics because it affects their shareholders.
Not being a fan of nationalised industry I must say that the three basics Water, Gas, and Electricity should never have been privatised, but ordinary folk were conned into buying in, out of greed. I well remember times in a different life building ST works and water abstraction together with all associated dealings with RDC's UDC's and water authorities.

My day has just gone downhill big time, 10 million.......💊💊💊🥃. All eating, breathing and crapping everywhere, what are we doing to ourselves? Oh, I know let’s ban lead shot and hold consultation meetings on the problem of deer numbers and the problems they cause and how to get rid🥃. I know what kind of consultation meetings we need for sure. Anyways, deep breath more meds and Jesus wants me for a sunbeam😆

We are certainly putting it in at the moment.

Our rivers are now full of effluent, EU regulation doesnt apply now, its cheaper to pollute than fix infrastructure. I think that to judge me as a remainer is meaningless & inaccurate. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the fines imposed by Brussels & are now fixed by our Government?
No.
Who seem hellbent on rewarding the shareholders. What has living in the EU got to do with effluent in OUR rivers?
Effluent in our rivers is the result.of more sewage entering the system than planned for. Much of that comes from the extra six million European arseh0les in the country. Now that's not entirely the fault of the EU, but it is ome of the predictable consequences.
This seems to be a recent problem, & until the level of fines imposed by our Government approach the cost of investment, then the problem will continue. Sorry, but its a disgrace.
It is a disgrace but definitely not a new problem. It was certainly a problem in the 80s.and for at least 150 years before that.

All your points are on the button but out govt ignores the common sense.

late sixties used to have great catches of flounders round the s...e pipe where it entered the sea, thought nothing of wading and swimming among small turd segments and slivers of toilet paper, just part of beach life along a mile or three of beach depending on tide and wind. Ah bless🤣

Very serious stuff imo
If everybody boiled their own pi55 it’d help with the pollution.
