And you thought the scottish ferries saga was bad…

I can assure you it is - it may not be required, however it most certainly is included.

I know some of the jobs I applied for did collate "diversity" information, however I believe this is (only supposed) to be used by HR in understanding the average applicant that applies to the job - so that they can see if their advertising is appealing only to certain sectors of the population.

I am under the understanding that with the Equalities Act, the person (or people) making any decisions prior to actually interviewing the person cannot/should not know any of the applicant's diversity details. I've been told that this even extends to their names.

And yet we are informed that forces recruitment are waiving proper security checks in order to boost foreign intake numbers ?

This makes interesting reading

Well I guess it's up to the individual whether they include that info. Advice is not to.
That's only the advice if you're white and male.
The fact is that they wouldn't ask those questions if they didn't want to discriminate at some level according to the answers. That may not be individual discrimination, but we know that it has resulted in institutional discrimination.

So hands up all those brand spanking new aircraft carriers going to protect us and Nato countries from the red hordes - err, not so fast Prince of Wales - you are staying home with “Mummy”!
You simply couldn’t make it up!

Would it be a bit fanciful to imagine that they are holding these flagships back because they want to load them up with stuff and be a little more in a war ready state?

On my count. - Rule Britannia, Britannia rules...

blame the voters, the incessant clamour for every increasing amounts of money to be thrown at the NHS above and beyond all other government departments. Blame our oldies, our aged and increasingly decripid population, who both use the NHS and vote. Blame us youngsters for not breeding more….

No, that's the advice to everyone. And employers often specifically ask for that information to be excluded from the CV and letter of application.

Trouble is, employers often have a preconception of what sort of person would be able to do the job. So, for example, if an employer thinks a bloke in his 30s would be most capable of fulfilling a particular role, and an application from a 20 yr old girl lands on his desk, she's not even going to get shortlisted for an interview. In fact, the potential employer probably won't even bother to read the rest of her CV. Yet she may actually be by far and away the best candidate for the job.
So, it is in the interests of both employers and prospective employees, for the CV to exclude details of age and gender, and let each candidate stand on their merit and ability to do the job.

Obviously been a while since youve applied for a job 😂

Eh? I've sent quite a few applications off recently. VSS is correct, you don't need to include any of that information, it is entirely optional. My CV doesn't contain my age, sexuality or any other protected characteristic. You could infer my gender from my name I guess?

If you were discriminated against during an application owing to your race, age, gender, sexuality ect then the employer would be in breach of the equality act of 2010.

If the information is requested on an online form then there should be a "prefer not to say" option.

Edit: they may ask about disability to ensure that appropriate accommodations have been made during the application.

HMS PoW set sail this afternoon.

All of the others problems can, as usual, be sorted by sacking large numbers of the Civil Service and start again by employing folk who are happy to actually work for a living. Particularly in the MOD, whose only real function is to deal death and extreme violence on whoever the state tells them.

That’s a bit provocative - after 26 years in uniform and now 24 years in the Civil Service I wonder why I still pick up the phone at “crack of sparrow’s” on a Sunday morning whilst sat in a high seat on a fallow cull to deal with an issue of certification affecting a large grey ship (not PWLS) - your paint brush is pretty broad 🙇‍♂️

Good man!

That'll be because you want to work for a living, rather than starting a diversity network!
