Animal Transit deer sled issue

I was extracting a red stag (11 points, 88.5kg at the game dealer) yesterday evening and had a problem I had not encountered before in that the sled kept snagging on the rough ground of the hill and I snapped two ropes (was attatched to my truck). I've extracted multiple times at this hill over the season with similar weights over winter and not had any issues. I'm assuming its because the grounds dried out so a bit more resistance and any turfs like hitting concrete. Ended up calling a mate and we dragged it out, not fun on 1:5 incline.
Mate reckoned that if it had a bigger rounded front or i was running ropes off an A frame to lift the front then it would be fine.
Anyone else have this issue or other solutions?

I've had a jet for probably 15 years or more now, it's worn through a few times easily sorted with a plastic welder, it's never let me down and has handled some very heavy stags over the years, it's been twisted all shapes with the very heavy stuff but is still performing brilliantly.

The jet sled trailer from Barry @Stirlinggundogs is great and solves many of these issues

I'll be making a lightweight aluminium sled soon with plastic replaceable runners. It will have a rolled front edge

Never had any issues with the Slee sled. Dragged it for miles over open hill and forrest roads for years. Fits easily behind the quad in a Ifor williams p6e.

Any issue when it hits hidden stones?
Small ones it rides over but yes, big ones will stop it and it's nowhere near as robust as the Slee, but its lighter. Laden with a big carcass though, its all about picking your route out. Over grass, heath, gravel roads, no issues.

Yes JetSled solves these specific issues, Ill be at the Stalking Show so if you are going come and get a hands on with the Sleds see what you think......
We do a JS1Trailer(r) for behind the quad too, great piece of equipment.....
Hi I seen your stall outside the show last year and was regretting not buying the bigger jet sled will you have any at the show this year ? Thanks

+1 for the Jet Sled - I have both the small (Junior) and large. The small does most recoveries but the large is mostly being towed behind the quad without issues (not on the trailer).

Same here, can drag behind quad no issue, it's no slee sleigh but if you take it easy it'll cope fine.

Made my own cover from half an army basha, keeps the carcass perfectly clean.

Won't deal with forest roads, I made that mistake this season but found it repaired well with plastic welding and a canoe repair patch 👍

Similar experience with the Bushwear one, hit a hidden rock and it split. Just wondered if the Jet sled was more robust.

In my experience of a 15 years plus jet sled, unless the newer ones are made differently ie thinner more brittle plastic they handle tough work very well, but like anything plan your route as mentioned above to avoid really sharp rocks ect.

It's one of the best investments I've ever made, and I couldn't live without one they are great 👍🏻
