Another addition to Griff`s pension fund

This morning I did my usual run to the trapline near the dead cow,I passed one unsprung trap then continued to the next one about 80 yards further on. I walked downhill to it and saw it unsprung,oh well no joy. Noting that the twin calves had been pulled to pieces and the cow had been chewed since I was last there.
I walked uphill to the next trap location about 30 yards away and couldn't see the drag (5' rough bush timber 4" dia) Whoa! Its gone! Then noted the empty trap nest and it was on,we have a runner. I covered the other two traps for my own dogs safety and yelled out to them in the ute which was parked up the hill above me. They galloped down and scented excitedly all around the trap site, running around like blue arsed flies.
I thought that the obvious was for the dog to drag downhill in the clear going and took the dogs down hill for 400 yards to no avail.
Then coming back up hill I then cut across the hill face into the freshening wind 150 yards to the West. My dogs hit the scent line and went further uphill into the bush about 300 yards away.

Thoughts of a bloody long drag it was were in my mind and a hopeless case without a good dog.
A few minutes later I heard my dog give a yip....ah ha! .22 Krico in hand I moved uphill further to the bushline and then my old bitch came out,i sent her back in and she took me straight to my dog on full point. He had his face 2' off a tangle of berry canes and then I saw some movement and actually thought schit, that looks like fox fur due to the colour as the animal moved behind the foliage screen. Phuck no its a dog and straight away I knew it was the bitch that I had on my list of wants. She gave a growl as my dog had a snap and I poked the .22 into her and gave her the end of story. It got the "phuck off scruff" of course.

$120 scalp, another bladder of "lemon juice" and I will add, extremely valuable bitches juice at that! I saw a big dog`s mark`s travelling freshly rained on farm track a few days ago. This was after the big dog that was shot so he is on the list and hopefully the femme fatale juice will help seal the deal.
I add that I am a dog lover but not a lover of these wild dogs and their killing ways.

Last May,winter coats darkening.

November IIRC. Red = trap location, green = drag chain showing on the drag. The bitch is having a sniff of the drag which like them all as usual are carried in the back of the ute for my own dogs scent to rub onto, perhaps she is whiffing my own hand, who know`s? She has been a very cunning bitch since I first saw her image. She was heard calling for him..too late.

This morning, she stopped and stepped into the steel that had been anointed with her long time partners pi$$. hubby is hanging in the background tree,so is she now.Note the trap ring on her nearside fore paw.

The **** today would have ripped into me before the lead took over,no doubt. But as a trapped animal, every one I have seen all run like the wind away!

I have only just opened the card from my camera placed at the cow and here she is in a very poor photo showing at the head of the cow feeding.

You know Loki that anytime that you want to come on down and run a few traps and shoot a few deer you are most welcome mate, you seem to be the only bloke with any interest in hunting at all down here.

Mr G

That is an extremely kind offer - I am not of the 'upper echelons' to warrant 'time in bush' with your goodself!
However, I wouldnt mind being considered, amongst other worthy parties of course, for tagging along whilst you do your daily work routine...........
When neighbour returns from Sidney I will be briefed on the 'purgatory flight'- he is still bamboozled' (aka jet-lag) at the moment (few words on electrickery)!

Oh he's not the only one. I watch your posts all the time and am facinated and would love to come over. Think I started my interest in NZ when Xena warrior princess was on. Cough. But time, money work and my Missus mean it will be a few years before I could even think of it.. And I might want to get my fitness levels up a few notches as well.

Is there a close season on the dogs?

JTO There is no season whatsoever, its kill on sight!

I did the rounds yesterday morning after the night before we had dogs going off their nuts howling. They had started in the late arvo, then woke me around 11.30PM in conjunction with my new bitch barking savagely.( Old dogs know the ropes with the germs out there and dont contribute as much.) so I walked down into the garden and listened to the ****s screaming, they just over the creek from the pine tree (prev thread). Talk about a cacophony of sound ffs! Still going as I did the rounds at daylight with one of my Easter visitor daughters that was interested in the trapping caper. She snapped a few pics off while I nestled steel in a hole,a slight mistiness and dogs howling made it a better place to be than doing office work!

Looking at the pic I might have to splash out for a bottle of Just for Blokes ha ha.
