Another drought in the making?

Oh Joy. 15mm yesterday evening. Water butt's refilled. Slug fest last night. Birds singing, garden will be transformed.

Surprised it was only 15mm David as I was watching our gutters overflowing by the garage door where the youngest was barbecuing. Noted the water level in the pond was down 6” yesterday whilst mowing - will check shortly. Hopefully, yesterday’s deluge will have made a good difference 🤞

2 measley millimetres! That’s it.
We were forecast 10mm, bit got a fraction.
Every rain forecast here starts off decent and within 24 hours has gone to nothing.

I think we had a total of around 5mm in April (last year was 20mm) whereas the norm is around 60mm. So we have gone from normal to1/3 to 1/12 in 2 years!

In fact for last year we averaged 20mm / month from April to August (100mm total rainfall against a normally expected 220mm) and we had relative crop failure (hay is costing £7/ bale) so got knows what we will be paying this winter if the grass yield is worse than 2025!

Anyone want to convince me that human activity isn’t affecting the rate of climate change??

I recorded 14 mm in April so yesterday's 15 mm exceed April's total. Local farmers will be rejoicing. 90% maize drilled and some up already and 1st cut silage completed so ground had a good soak. If it stays calm it will do the world of good. I will have to water my big planters to get them topped up but at least the soil is damp so should soak in.
I have a couple of perms with grass to cut so might get out later this week and moon rise will be early hours so happy days.

I recorded 10 mm of rain in April. 1 water butt already empty.
1st and amazingly a bit of second cut of silage completed. Ground is rock hard and ditches now dry. A week of strong Easterly winds has sucked water from the soil. Early maize up but needs a drink.
I am having to water all my big pots and planters.
Fingers crossed for some serious rain in May.

Well it's the May Bank holiday here and no shortage of rain, the ground had dried a bit toward the end of April, but it's been well replenished now, place is like a jungle with verdant new growth. Hoping tomorrow will be dry, need to tune up some rabbits on a couple of permissions (deer season is over for now).
