Hi,
I took Mrs Glade to the docs today for her COVID Astre Seneca jab. I wheel her in and I was asked if I wanted the jab as I am her carer. I jumped at it. I was duly jabbed. The doctor whilst administering the job informed us he has vaccines left over from people who had booked a vaccine and then not showed up!!! I find this a sin under the circumstances because he can’t store the vaccine at minus 34, and it has to be thrown away.
My wife is not having any reaction to the jab, however I am. I have temp and feel generally crap with aches and pains and a headache. That said after dosing up on paracetamol I’m beginning to feel a bit better! I’m glad I’ve had it all the same.

The side effects are your immune system reacting to the "infection" and I'm told that can be a good sign as it means you've had a good strong immune reaction which means plenty of immunity etc.

I've been hearing stories of people not turning up, I don't know if it is true but I was told that 1 in 6 doses in Scotland went in the bin for a while! Hopefully that is no longer the case. However, I think the "range" of people who can be jabbed has been increased to help doctors find alternatives if they do have doses left over. Apparently the bottles of the Oxford vaccine officially contain 10 doses but they often get 11 out of them so left over doses aren't always down to people not turning up, however doctors now have a lot of flexibility to phone around and see if they can get people in at the last minute. In such a complex operation there are bound to be glitches and if, like you, were are flexible and take what's offered to us then we can help make a success of this.
 
The missus has had both jabs now of the Pfizer vaccine too. She felt a tad unwell for a day or so but that was it. They do, it appears most days have some vaccine left over from non-attenders in our neck of the woods (so probably the same everywhere) and have been using them up on emergency services workers. Which is good by me.

If you are particularly thick and usually wear a hat made out of silver paper and think the vaccine will turn you into an armadillo or something, so decline to make an appointment, that's one thing. But to make an appointment then not bother to turn up (without a pressing reason) strikes me as absolutely criminal.
 
GP came out and gave 97 year old mum her first one last week and she had no reaction...partner was sent a text at 16:45 on Friday would she phone for an appointment to have hers at a local clinic over the weekend...the phone number given had the delightful answerphone message that the surgery was closed until Monday!

Probably just means the booking staff work ‘office’ hours while the medical staff complete bookings, arranged in the week, over the weekend. Not unusual, and not really an issue to grumble about.

It annoys me that ‘we’ look for anything to criticise. Neighbours critiqued that mrs had hers am and mr recieved a message pm to attend and ‘why couldn’t they save them two trips’. Like the NHS haven’t got anything better to worry about than individuals household arrangements, they’re simply working through a list (mostly in age order), plus it’s not like the neighbours have got anything better to do both being retired and locked down - they should be grateful for a reason to get out!!
 
My eldest daughter had hers yesterday. Yet to see if she is feeling grotty today as she hasn’t surfaced yet. Teenagers 🙄. Looks like youngest daughter will have to wait a few months for hers as she’s not 16 until December.
 
So far here in Ireland 99.6% of the people offered the vaccine have taken it.

Both my parents had theirs ten days ago, no adverse reactions. Their appointments were 1/2 hr apart but on arriving they mentioned this to one of the marshals and were told to go in together. The lady on reception juggled the paperwork and they went in together JABS done.

We seemed to be lagging behind then wham!
I went to a centre 20 miles away Thursday night, great 10 Min wait in car, in and out in 20 mins.
Mrs in 70-75 group got a chance Fri at local surgery. She had a 50 Min wait in a queue in minus temperature. Glad I got sent elsewhere.
Results, both got sore arms, I had a muzzy head and tired for a day Pfizer Mrs nothing Oxford.
 
Our elderly next door neighbour had both of hers several weeks ago , no side effects feeling fine , this is North Yorkshire .
