Anyone having success with new batches of hmr amo

Hi Lads.
Just used up the last of my 3 year old Hornady hmr amo, which at best has averaged 1 in 4 flyers some of these's have developed split necks after firing.
My cz has shot Hornady amo the best when the amo is good, has anyone bought and amo in the last 3 months and what has it shot like/ split necks ect.

I have considered re using the .22lr but in general i cannot get much closer than 90 yds for these's rabbits and that's using a thermal spotter and shooting with n/v, so the hmr is still my preferred choice.

The latest stuff seems to be pretty good. I'm two years in on the newer ammo and all good.

Used HMR for 6yrs now. No idea how many but probably approaching 10,000 rounds. The only batch I have had serious issues with is a few boxes I bought very cheaply off someone on this forum a few years back. They were purple tipped Hornady and lots have split necks before firing.

Aside from those, I have used Federal, CCI, Hornady, Remington, Norma and not had issues with any. Never had a squib. Had a couple of fail to fires as you do with rimfire crap but nothing untoward. I avoid Winchester. The rest are made by CCI.

The latest I am shooting is that CCI A17 stuff that is supposedly 100fps quicker than the rest and was designed for the Savage. Yeah whatever. My local was selling it in 200 boxes for £60, so I got some and it shoots the same as the normal stuff.

No point bothering with .22LR. The cost difference soon disappears when you miss rabbits because you don't know if they are at 50yds or 80yds. 30-125yds, just point and shoot with the HMR. Brilliant high volume cartridge.

Even upright parralel hedgerow stalking off sticks in daylight is a doddle with a steady approach.

Just got an HMR the other week bought 200 17gr V Max haven’t seen any split necks before or after firing, no duds had the odd flyer but nothing major .

I'm wondering whether to shop my HMR in after 1000s of rounds and rabbits. Most of my rabbiting has dried up now and been replaced with either long range crows or the odd warren ambush.

I'm still having split necks and accuracy issues with fresh ammo, to answer your question. I guess my local doesn't shift much .17 ammo then...

Hmm. Purple heads (no not those ones - schoolboy SD sniggers) have had a higher issue rate for me. That said the old case-splitting problem is much reduced and it really is an incredible round - just do be aware of the dead man’s click!

I get through a lot of 17hmr, use the Hornaday 17gn vmax, use about 100 month and have only had one fail to fire in the last year, trying to find/try the 15gn copper, but no one seems to have them.

I think it's important to distinguish between split necks (both before and after firing) and accuracy issues/inconsistent batches.

I have had lots of split necks after firing but never had the accuracy issues some people complain of.

Absolutely, a split case after firing is a non issue. It's worth inspecting for any split before firing, they are the potential threat.

A recent box looked like mixed ammunition. However after a clean .
Shoots fine . Apart from the odd looking one which I probably won't fire no splits before firing
