2 outside days here so far, 87 and 122. The latter last Tuesday in high winds, every one to be savoured !!. On my small 6 gun local syndicate we had a very wet day and called it a day at about 2.30 for about 50.
we have had two days so far, 167 and 171 both mixed days half pheasants and half partridges, dont really get on the pheasants till the end of december when the maze is flat.
Had our second day last Saturday & what a difference, we repositioned our flaggers & gave them fresh instruction & the birds flew very well indeed gaining a good height.
Had our 2nd day here too on Saturday, good strong flying pheasants and redlegs that flew in small coveys for a change.
Pretty much the same numbers as first shoot, but much higher and faster birds
Small day this saturday for a roving syndicate wanting 1/2 what we would normally shoot. Not so easy this as the birds are all holding tremendously well in all our drives.
Two days so far, birds are very strong and flying high this year - we had a duff lot last year that were not anywhere near mature come December. We've noticed our indigenous Woodcock are bigger than the migrants (they have just flown in on the moon) and have a self imposed stop on shooting them until December; we had a much higher head count last year as a result of doing the same - good sport and good eating.
Numbers are down but this is due to leaf and in all fairness guns not putting any practice in.
Me, had three of the best shots I have ever taken in 25 years v.high, v.fast crossers - very, very satisfying.
Cracking day yesterday, a little bit cold but a nice breeze, not too much sun, plenty of pheasants were we needed them.
we ended up with 180 including three jays. they all flew well, some a bit too well.
A real pleasure to be out.
