Afternoon Gents,
I know this might be a long shot (pardon the pun
)
Would anybody out there know the approximate velocity I can expect from a 1in11, 20 inch barrel of factory loaded 308 Win, Hornady American Whitetail 150 grain interlock soft points?
A buddy of mine dropped a deer at 400 odd meters (he's a professional guide) so it has me interested in trying to make a D.O.P.E chart for my rifle (I've never shot past 175 to 200 meters). Unfortunately, I have no access to a chronograph or a range far enough to calculate the velocity by inches dropped.
I know the box states 2820 with a 24 inch test barrel which is seldom accurate anyway. Given that there's an average bleed of speed of around 20 to 30 fps per inch according to the web, I though I'd have it sorted and be able to make a rough DOPE chart to get started. But talking to a guy in my club, said his 6.5 creedmore dropped nearly 200 fps at the muzzle with a 22 inch barrel. 100 FPS per inch?
Anyway, if any of you fine gentlemen have had experience with this, it'd be greatly appreciated
Regards,
