Are there any UK 17 Squirrel owners out there?

‘‘twas a bad day when Ken pulled the pin.

I learned a lot from there and also met some good people and very helpful people who are now good friends.
Kb.
I learned a lot as well. The Rifleman's journal enabled me to get competitive in FTR.

I was using the spent Eley LR cases but I had a lot of issues, I now use the Corbin .224 jackets and size them. The soft copper is far more forgiving.

My Smith only had a 1 in 10 Douglas barrel in stock. So 20g is my preferred bullet weight as well.
What jackets are you using?

Yes it was a sad day. I don’t really know what actually happened, it was there one day gone the next. I also was in touch with a good few small caliber, bullet making guys.

My Squirrel is a 1-10 twist as I only use 20g bullets in it.
I use J4 jackets they used to come in three lengths.500” for 20g .560”for 25g and .630” for 30g. Only the .560” is available now. I get them from reloading international they come in buckets of approximately 5000. I also get .20 cal ones and draw them down to .17 and trim them to length and make 27g 22g and 18g I also use drawn 20 cal jackets to make my lead tip bullets.
Did you try annealing the spent Eley cases

Not yet, perhaps I should have, before I started forming them
I have in the past used fired .22 rim fire cases drawn to .17 and trimmed but also had mixed success. I used to put them in the oven and run a self clean cycle that helped a lot.
No case head separation I'm pleased to say. I am annealing fairly regularly though
If you form using the crush fit method you should have no problems with case head separation.

Marine PMI probably knows more than any UK members about the demise of the forum.
I do know it wasn’t a case of being here one day and gone the next.
Interested changed on both sides of the board.
Perhaps Tim can put some meat on the bones?
Cheers, Ken.

I didn't keep too close a tabs on Saubier's after I got back into long range shooting. That being said, I do get a ping every once and a awhile from Jim Saubier (he's around the Bozeman, MT area). As you said, interests changed, and a lot of the old timers passed away. Not even sure if MontDoug is still kicking; he was getting on in years. AB (Adam Bentley) started a gunsmithing business (Dresden Gunworks), but last I heard he got caught up in drugs (meth maybe?), left his wife and kids, shacked up with some woman that was a bone over 18, and then fell off the face of the planet. Epperson passed away as well, and many other well known people in the sub-caliber world. Even Todd Kindler was looking to sell off the Woodchuck Den so he could retire.

I believe Saubier's just wasn't getting enough traffic to justify the hosting costs and software licensing, so it got shutdown. A shame, since there was an incredible amount of information on that site. :(

Thanks for that Tim.
Pretty sure Georgeld got an hostile email from Montdoug when he enquired after him!
Ah well, nothing stays the same.
Cheers, Ken.
