Before I part with my hard earned ,can somebody tell me if the reticle is centralised to the screen when switched on,plus is there a difference between the 850 and 940 ir modules for distance.

The reticle is centered but bore sight first and adjust mount if needed to keep laser in view with magnification.

It is only central if your X/Y settings for your chosen zero are 0/0. Assuming you will have to change the X/Y settings It does centralise when you apply digital magnification.
850nm is better for long range.

May be off centre at base mag - 5x but everything higher is dead centre.

What range will you get with the onboard 850 ir ,will there be much difference in range with the 940.

I can't speak for the 940, but I can easily shoot foxes out to 300+ yards and can ID them further out than that on a good night with mine on 850.
The on-board ir and the light weight of the whole unit are the main benefits for me. I've used a few various Alpex's and I've just bought a second Zulus.
