I’ve started using this to get to the edge of legal light on the fallow. I like the system, I’m getting used to it, it was great value etc.

The thing that I can’t quite work out is that it seems to go quite snowy for a few minutes before real dark sets in. It’s in night mode, day mode isn’t better. Then when it’s dark all is good. Thinking it’s not dark enough for the IR to be useful but not light enough to pick up the natural light.

Would a more powerful torch help out? Or is this just a thing with day / night scopes? Or am I just not doing something right.

Thanks in advance for helpful pointers, I’m not interested in whether I should have bought a different sight, other ones are better etc. I’ve spent time getting used to this, it’s staying!

Hello, Have you contacted ATN at Hereford Office, or there is a new ATN member now on here after Peter finished on SD,

I will do - it’s not a complaint (I really like it) just wondering about anyone’s experiences.

It’s Rob at ATN now. He’s been helpful with a recent purchase (thank you Rob). I’ll send a separate email with the same question.

Thanks

They’ve been great to deal with

This isn’t a fault it’s more how to get the best out of it.

It's not a fault, but the problem you describe is worse with the ATN than it is with other day/night scopes like the Alpex 4k/Pulsar C50 because the sensor in the ATN has smaller pixels than those other scopes
Basically the sensor is not getting enough light to produce a usable colour image
Changing to night mode should improve the image (although it will now black and white) - you should hear a small click when it changes from day mode to night mode (and vice versa)
Using amore powerful IR - i.e a laser based IR rather than the LED based IR supplied with the scope will help

Cheers

Thanks Bruce that’s really helpful

To save a technophobe from himself, could you please recommend a couple of torches?

Helpful advice from Rob on settings, to try out as well as similar advice on torch. Provided very quickly over email.

Well done ATN
