ATVs and Trailers

Well I am having a last minute wobble before putting despisit down for FM2 420. I have already purchased the P7E trailer.

Canadian colleague at work says I should look at the Foreman as 6ft 2 is too big for the 420. Any taller guy use a 420?

Does a Foreman FA6 fit on a P7E trailer?

Thanks.

While you're wobbling, have a look at CanAm.
BASC members can get 5% discount at the mo, and £250 off accessories.

A friend has a TRX500. A 2007 model. Not sure what model FA6 is but his is a manual, rear axle non-irs one. His goes on a P7e.

Also, I can get a Can am Outlander 450 on my P6e. Only just, but it fits!

Sorry, I just realised that the discount only applies to the Traxter side-by-side models, not the quad bikes.
I still reckon CanAm are worth a look through.

I think I have made a mistake with product code FA6....that means four wheel drive and auto.....I want manual.

Need to confirm details.

Half dozen Canadians at work are split 50/50 on who is best - Can Am or Honda. Probably a bit of patriotism in there as well.

Glad to hear it will fit a P7E. I will not fit floatation tyres, I think I will end using it on the country lanes a lot more than I initially expected.

Thanks gents

I have wobbled massively in favour of the FM6 and am trying to change my trailer order from P7E to P8E, and remove the mesh sides.
Can-Am look decent but I do appreciate Japanese engineering.

I can recommend the P8 it replaced a 10 year old P6 a year ago. I have a jockey wheel which I take off going over rough ground as it is a bit low. don't know much about quad bikes but I get a tracked power barrow, mini dumper, and a decent carcass tray for hygienic transportation. A tracked barrow is a fraction of the cost of a quad and gets over some interesting ground. Obviously you have to walk and can't razz around 1

Never knew tracked barrows existed until now...

Don't look much fun to sit in though.

Hopefully trailer supplier will not get the hump, but since I did the deal over the phone I should be covered by the EU distance selling 14 day window worst case.

U won't regret getting the 8fy versoin.
With the mesh sides i think they come off relatively easily and usually far cheaper to buy intially than later on.
I've often thought the sides would be handy but the price puts me off, and the fact i've managed for ytears without them.

Wot brand of tracked barrow are u finding a lot cheaper than a quad? Usually they hold they're value and are quite dear to buy 2nd hand, i always thought they ere quite dear to buy new too.
Depends on ur ground but can be a bit tippy, i know i've rolled 1 a few times

I removed the mesh sides from the order, and that pretty much balanced out the increase in cost of trailer from P7 to P8.

I think mesh sides for P8 are over 300 quid, plus I would only used them for fire wood.

Guessing the mesh side for the P8 are fairly heavy, so they would take a fair bit of the 750kg as well.

Does anyone know a bit about EASI training you get from the Honda dealer?

Will be getting quad delivered. Is there any training places between Inverness and Aberdeen?

Cheers

Swaledale trailers are the best on the market for my money. Extremely well built and great for off road use behind the quad, they take real hammer.

Countrryboy
Lumag barrows start well under £2k before the vat I haven't found it tippy, at least not like an atv as it carries the weight a lot lower and doesn't have a rider on top. I find it much easier to load than a quad and carries a bigger load. It is possible to "beach" it on clear fell if a stump gets between the tracks. The only time this has happened I tipped the animals out and reducing the load seemed to solve the problem, just a bit more careful now. It goes in a IW P8 trailer with a tray big enough for reds, keeps every thing nice and clean.

My brother done it a few years ago with new honda (bloody never offered me it and just had replaced a bbike a few months earlier)
It will depend on why ur wanting the training? And ur experience. My brother thought it was a waste of time (but he'd owned a quad for 6 years prevously and on it for long peroids/big miles most days)
Doubt any forest companies large landowners would recognise it if u need it to get on there land, some land owners may recognise it as 'training' as it is still a grey area really if u do need it to be 'compatent'
If its for free and local might be worth it, but if u have to travel/take time of work u'd be as well just doing a NPTC ticket (possibly the assesor might offer a discount to upgrade the course??)

Aye cheers stevie, i see the pro grade 1's are still up at the 5-6K thou which must have been wot i've priced and used in the past.
The better models certainly hold there value well anytime i've seen them sold

I don't know about EASI training, but the LANTRA quad bike course is worth doing as it gives you a recognised qualification that landowners / forestry companies etc like to see.

Must admit i have the oppisate opinion to VSS above.

I don't think lantra courses are worth the paper they're printed on, many big companies don't recognise them and have an expiry date on them (usually 5 years nptc don't).
I know some old retired blokes on the local estae had to do a chainsaw ticket to carry on cutting firewood on the estate, done a lantra ticket and forestry manger wouldn't recognise it

To be honest the actual course wether lantra or nptc will be very similar just the tickets not recognised very widely.
I would never bother doing any lantra course and just pay the extra to get a ticket that is accepted everywhere with no expiry

Thanks Countryboy. Apparently EASI is a training course whereas NPTC is an assessment. I am definitely in need of training first. very little quad experience (in driver's seat)

Probably worthwhile then if fairly handy and local, my bro reckoned they just drove about a car park for 1/2 day (but he'd of had 30K+ miles of quad driving) he thought it was a waste of time.
But it gave him a basic paper trial to show he was 'compatant' and had recieved training, mibee why u get the course too so ur dealer/honda have 'trained' u to use the bike so not laible if u hurt urself. (For a while they tried to stop distance selling of chainsaws so the dealer could show u the basics in shop)

Nptc will do training too just with an assesment at the end, infact the training will be pretty similar to lantra, so if only for ur piece of mind it won't make any difference.
It's only if u need to show the paperwork to anyone it will start to matter (like to use bike on a FC lease)

I know the 1st day i left school i crashed the quad twice on my 1st job, both times catching throttle as i went for the brake, 2nd time it rolled on top of me and pinned me to deck, luckily the hill was so step i could roll it off me. cracked a few ribs and got a bollocking of head keeper so no real harm done
