B25 Lower firing pin.

Guys, Im having trouble with light strikes on my newly acquired B25 B2. I'd say about 50% of the time the bottom barrel fails to fire. Ive tried another firing pin out of a Browning XS that worked OK in the shop with a primer only load but not with my Fiocchi's. (and Ive just bought 5000 ;-( )
Im assuming it needs a slightly long pin ( both the springs were also changed), do I just keep trying OEM pins or can you get slightly longer 3rp party pins in the UK?

cheers

Martin

Hi, Can I ask why you didn’t get the correct B25 firing pin and went for one from an XS? Bottom barrel pins go first because they do the most, it is very common, they are almost classed as a consumable if you are a large volume shooter.

Might be worth having a conversation with a gunsmith.

A lot of gunsmiths will make a firing pin to suit a particular gun as there will often be minute differences between particular shotguns in terms of the ‘throw’ (not sure of the technical term) of the firing pin when the trigger is pulled.

I’d recommend trying to collate some spent Fiocchi shells/any light firings that you might have so that you can show the gunsmith what sort of additional ‘throw’ you might have to have put into the bottom barrel. You’ll be surprised how much you can tell from the imprint that a firing pin leaves on a spent shell.

I suspect that if you find that the ‘throw’ differs between shots (thus causing different firing pin strike depths) you will have a wider issue that adjusting the length of firing pin may not necessarily rectify.

Had on to hand and it looked identical to the one removed. Ive also found on a couple of US forums that this isn't an uncommon problem, Third party spring and pin kits are available over the pond but the one I found won't ship to the UK.

I'll take the gun out again next week, and beg/borrow/steal a few different makes of cartridges, to see if its brand specific and in the eatime see what spares options are available in the UK.

Thanks for all the advice.. Ive done some measuring and the Fiocchi primer is set about 20thou deeper than a Hull cartridge. If you look at the attached Photo, the Fiocchi primer is a U shapeIMG_20250323_090655582.jpg the Hull more doomed.

Also Wisemans came back to me saying Fiocchi primers are know to be harder than others. Plan now is to go out the my local clay ground on Wednesday and try as many different brands as possible to see if i can find a good combination.

Not quite: So i tried with a different ( but not brand new) striker, and it was better with Fiocchi's but not perfect, I did try about 10 other varieties of brands and loads, and they were all OK. The plan now if to fit a brand new set of pins (which have been ordered) and test again, fortunately its the clay season so its back to my trap gun for a while.

Yep, understood.

I shoot a B25 and the only misfires I get with any degree of regularity are with Fiocchi’s. The situation is widely known in my circles.

When it does occur anyone witnessing it simply says “Ooh a misfire.. you must be using Fiocchis are you?”. 😀

Common problem as the bottom setup doesnt generate as much power as the top.

New striker and a new main spring each time a bottom barrel starts playing up fixes 90% of issues.
