Back yard pests, have you got any?

Having lived in Florida for a short time, and having a river at the end of the garden, I did notice that the crocs seemed to be afraid of turtles, the turtles would occupy a raft or a piece of high ground, and actually chase the crocs off it. Saying that I did have a tendency to consume large amounts of Budweiser, and it could have been a mirage.
We had a property near Clearwater for 11 years.

These are from our rear garden and they ate turtles. The crunching sound was horrendous.

it's likely that it'll be another 30 years before there are full size crocs in Australia.
Finchy, where have you been? Under Ayers RocK ffs ha ha. There are PLENTY of full size crocs in the land down under mate,in fact there are more and more calls to allow hunting again.
Waters up north should always be treated as having LARGE crocs in them, the big boys have a habit of being unseen and thus unnoticed.
Matt Wright catches them weekly.

You've got no chance of get croc hunting reintroduced. The place is full of greenies now. If they don't care about stoking some of the worst bush fires in history with their idiot policies, they're not going to worry about a few kids getting eaten by crocs.

Are you sure they were crocodiles?
There are a lot more alligators in Florida.

They are big but I still think they can (and will) get a lot bigger than that. Biggest Australian salty recorded was 8.6 m wasn't it in 1957..?

I'm sure I read somewhere that above a certain length their bulk increases exponentially so a 6 m croc will weigh almost twice as much as a 5 m croc. I'll try and dig that out if I can remember where I saw it.

They also have the American crocodile in the US.
Yes there are crocodiles in Florida but Alligators outnumber them about 1000 to 1
I asked the question because I was curious about if it was actually crocodile that was being talked about or not here.
When I was in Florida we used to run and jump over the top of alligators lying across a dirt track because they were very tame and docile. I wouldn’t trust them with small kids though 🤔

Saw some people in a camp site in Katherine NT camped down by the river who were sitting outside their tents supping beer and chucking scraps to some little freshies a couple of yards away from their feet. Don't think I'd have done that.....

I took a run up and jumped over an immature eastern brown snake once (only about 2' long). It was lying across a narrow forest path cut into a steep hill and wouldn't shift and the girlfriend was lying up in a bothy with a twisted ankle waiting for me to bring the car round a dirt track to pick her up. Didn't realise what the snake was til afterwards.

When I was in Florida in lates 80s, local guy told me, as a rule of thumb, when shining a light on their eyes at night,
for every inch apart their eyes were you could reckon a foot in length. ie. 6” apart = 6 feet long.
Might just have been bs, I don’t know.
Ken.
