Ballistic tip for 3006

I wonder if we don't associate "ballistic tips" in our minds with bullets designed for explosive expansion on small stuff like foxes? When someone says ballistic tip to me I think of a centre fire .22 shooting a fox.

I would imagine that people making .30 calibre ballistic tips have considered that most or all of their applications will be on deer sized game and so I would guess that the bullet is designed for this exact job and my money says it will do it well.

Personally I'm using 150 grain Nosler Partitions on sika as the front of them seems relatively soft and, obviously, the rear hangs together and pushes on through so I feel I get the best of both worlds but I'm willing to bet that a ballistic tip designed for deer sized animals will perform at least as well.

No problems with 150BT's in my '06, they work well on big reds n sika. Not too much 'damage' and deer fall over.

You would be wrong.

Based on a sample of roughly 150 Sika shot over the past five or six years, shot mostly with 120gr BT's from my 260, and 150gr 30 cal from a 30/06, the Ballistic Tip is an excellent choice.

Talk to a lot of Irish lads, we shoot a lot of Sika here.

Perfect . Has Nigel contacted you regarding his projectile deer performance database?

I've used Norma 150gr BT through my 30-06 and enjoyed good accuracy.
I also used Hornady 165gr SST BT in Africa and had very good results at varying ranges.
The bullets retained good shape and mass and everything dropped quickly. The one exception was due to my error.

I prefer the 220gr, 3rd from the right. 240gr second from the right is designed for killing buffalo. The 150gr interlock second from the left looks anaemic. And kills anaemically.

Does in my mind.

I have had good success with the 165gn SST, good visual and audible shot reaction, good blood trail and meat damage is minimal compared to the jellified mess that can be left by the 125gn bullets

The thing is, someone mentions that you all must use 168 grn bonded or whatever was stated and apparently they are expensive?
So let's get rid of all the other choices because we must all use those. Then we wouldn't have to ask such questions, Oh ! And what rifle and scope combo must we all use please ?

I am still laughing now because a Croatian chap was telling me that the quite Large Boar that we where standing over, said it would have died better using a heavier bullets was lying dead 50 yards from where I shot it.
