Barnard S, single shot conversion to magazine fed?

Good evening All,
Can anyone tell me if a Barnard S single shot target action can be retro machined to make it magazine fed?
(Ideally an A.I. magazine system).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers

The answer is probably

But you would be better placed sourcing a S M model that has the magazine inlet already done

Thanks Ronin.
The reason for asking is I already have the action. I quite like the idea of this new NRL type shooting (very similar to our own "Sporting Rifle"!). My main rifles wouldn't make spec, so was thinking of doing a new build to comply! Also wanted to keep the costs down and not jump into another "Arms race" discipline! Obviously a lot more research needed.

Simply use as singke shot with cartridge holder on side of stock

I think the cost to get someone to machine the inlet for an aics mag or similar would equal the effective difference of replacing to an SM

Once the s was sold

They would also need to source drawings for the SM inlet or have one to hand to scan : take measurements from

This is also assuming the S and Sm have the same feed ramp, bolt geometry for case pick up and extractor / ejector

The hunter matches are as far as I know no more than two shots per target

(If one misses after two shots then you move to the next target)

So a single shot manually fed may not be such a disadvantage ?

I’ve just looked on gubtrader and there are a couple of SM for sale there - one quite cheap in a thumbhole stock with a scope looks to be mag fed the other is quite a bit more - the cheaper example could be used “as is” or at least give you a stock, action, bottom metal for reasonable cost and replace barrel and scope to put you “on the blocks”

I would steer away from the Barnard, since it's not 100% Rem700 clone i.e. there are not a lot stock options. Also the action should have decent value as is, just sell it and buy something more suitable?

If you go on with modification, do yourself a favor and ask the smith to machine also a cut for safety. Originally S and SM didn't have that, but now it's an option. Lots more choice on trigger when the cut is done. Dolphin Gun Company used to provide stocks for S/SM but it seems they've downsized and currently no stocks on their website.

I do have few S and one SM fitted to AICS stock with special recoil lug. S doesn't have feed ramp, but it should be straightforward to cut one. Since one of the lugs is at 6 o'clock position when cycling the action, it picks rounds nicely from AICS mag (SM of course).
