BASC Council - changing the tone

Hey gang,

I'm pretty sure you would all agree that our countryside way of life is under greater threat today than it has been at any other time in living memory. Many of us are dissatisfied with the muted and deferential response of our largest shooting organisation to this threat.

As a result, a good number of you have left BASC and joined other organisations. I have considered doing so myself, but - on reflection - I do not believe that further fragmentation of our ranks is a winning strategy. We already have a large shooting organisation and it contains a number of dedicated and hard-working people. I think we need to make it work for us.

To do this, we members of the Stalking Directory (whom I find, generally, to sit at the more militant end of the shooting-politics spectrum (myself included)), need to get our own representative on the BASC Council.

After some pleading from me, our very own @kes has agreed to rejoin BASC and to stand for council if sufficient numbers of us commit to supporting him. I think we are privileged to have a candidate of such intelligence, knowledge, industry and passion who is willing to represent the views of shooters. I will vote for him in a heartbeat.

To gauge the level of interest in supporting this effort, please would you express your thoughts by reply below.

And note, this ain't just for current BASC members: if you left them, then I beg you to rejoin. We need to get a more aggressive voice on that council.

Kindest regards,

Carl
I agree we do need too stand together ALL of us.but most me included dont trust basc.i left years ago.had enough of my money.like some have said on here we need our own set up.not different membership too others put our money into one pot .stand as one

Kes will have my support.

As someone, who sits as Chairman on a Parish Council and who is an elected Councillor of a District Council, I'd like to say that even if feels like its stacked against you, it is better to fight and lose than not to fight at all. I have ruffled feathers, annoyed other Councillors and Council Officers, but my persistance has paid off, as I have found others with enough 'fire in their belly' who are prepared to support you when you try to turn the tide.

Good luck to him.

Like many I'm sure, I feel BASC fail to take a strong and forthright attitude in so many cases. I have considered leaving, but have remained as less members will not change things if there's no other greater organisation to go to. I would be happy to vote for Kes if he has the tenacity to get inside and push things on. I take my hat off to those who can and are willing to put the time in. Thanks.

Well thats it then its KES for EL Presidente de BASC'O

Carl and other like minded members, I am busy doing a bit of research - I could do with some help.

Any chance that someone with an accountancy background could view the accounts and let me know any areas of concern - I am ploughing my way through them but others would know better than I where any bodies might be buried.
We need a name for this group which should (please) be publicised quietly through friends on 'media'. (pheasant justice will NOT do.)
Anyone for a catch phrase ? I'm sure someone can condense into a short (say 3/4 ) words - what we are about. BASC should be BACS is not terrible but we need the best.
I could also do with an agenda for priority concerns - perhaps someone could run a 'poll' for the group ?
Can we arrange with the site owners for a space where only members of the group could exchange confidential info with maybe Carl advising the owners who could have membership of that group - we are currently very public.
Any useful research from anyone ?
Can anyone think of a short accurate para graph/ side of A4 which explains in straightforward way what the group is trying to achieve ? Naturally giving life to the 'catch - phrase'
i.e. We are currently dissaffected members of shooting organisations who fully support the need for a unified 'Voice for (not of ) shooting and conservation. We believe improvements to our collective representation need to be made and very quickly, from the inside. We seek amalgamation of all shootings representative bodies and to ally shooting to all other shooting and country sports to ensure the continuation of the countryside way of life in an age of Urban majority , if not understanding. We will challenge anyone where challenge is just and honest to protect our way of life and will no longer tolerate lies, misrepresentation and unjust unchallenged law about the pastimes enjoyed in our countryside by millions of Britains We will also show how shooting has been and will continue to be the greatest force for Conservation of all species in Great Britain.
(or something like this but a lot better.)
Come on lads, I'll take responsibility for authoring the final drafts but I need your thoughts if this is to capture the mass 'imagination' of those who, up until now, may have been watchers and to make those in the seat of representation currently that they will change or lose our collective support wholesale - insurance or not.
Cheers

I like your draft, Kes. I think the immediate priority is to find out when the next BASC council election is so that we can mobilise people around something concrete. Do you know yet? Or does anyone else on here know?

Best,

Carl
