BASC Council Elections.

Yeah, righto.

I guess you conveniently "forgot" I support THREE organisations who purport to speak for us.

You just carry on whining on the internet (as if that'll achieve anything...) whilst some of us put time into actually writing to people, pestering our MP's & doing our best to ensure these organisations ARE working for us.

No wonder we're backed into a corner if you're an example of what constitutes a "proactive member of the shooting community".
And you know I'm not writing to my mp how ? Didn't realise you knew me so well ! If you did you'll find I do plenty pal !
as for whining isn't that what you're doing at me right now ........

The results were announced today and once again I didn't make it onto council. If you voted for me many thanks for your support.

David.

Also sorry to hear that David - feel guilty I only managed to get you 3 extra votes, I was suprised how many of my contacts had jumped ship from BASC. Don't stop trying.

Thank you very much for your vote and your efforts. I won't be trying again. I don't have the profile that seems to get one elected. After two attempts I sort of feel like that old joke, "What do you tell a person with two black eyes etc."

Kind regards,

David.

150,000 members & the person with the most support gets 2,692 votes.

Methinks one ought not to be blaming BASC for its perceived ills, rather one ought to be blaming the apathetic & idle membership who can't even be bothered to spend a few minutes reviewing candidates' profiles then casting a vote.
If anyone whines about the direction BASC is taking, they should be asked two questions:

1) Are they a member?
2) Did they vote in the BASC council elections?

If either answer is "no" then they should either join & vote or shove their "opinion" where the sun never rises.

Fair call. I voted and was pleased by the outcomes two of the people I voted for were accepted. Lets hope they can do some changes :)

Unlucky Kalahari but as they say you have to be in it to win it so at least you gave it a go unlike those who sit idly by. Not that its much compensation but least you gave it a shot to try change things unlike most who will just sit behind a keyboard.

Well I voted and my candidates won, which is a very unfamiliar experience. Still, that's one council member who is definitely not an old duffer. So progress there perhaps!

Sorry to hear you didn't get in David. Well done for trying.

Unfamiliar for experience for me too. With our first past the post system I have never been represented in a general election. For the last 48 years I have always been one of the majority who voted against the policies of the party that won.

At least here in the BASC election two of my candidates won. Though I am surprised that someone who professed that their pride in their honesty was one of the reasons we should vote for them was elected. Alarm bells rang immediately...surely honest people assume that should be taken as read?

This is no doubt stepping on thin ice but can someone explain to my why a 30 year old candidate, London based/ centric, a relatively inexperienced solicitor and a member of BASC for just three years won the most votes ?

I am told the number of ballot papesr received - at approaching 4K - was much higher than in any recent year. And the number of votes gained by the two top candidates - 2,453 and 2,692 - were each about twice the normal highest vote. So things are moving in the right direction.

In 2009, apparently, there were only four candidates for seven seats, so there was no ballot!

I know why I voted for her, but I have no idea why anybody else did.

Just remembered the election so had a look at the results. David was the only one I voted for. I figured the fewer votes for other people the better for him.

Thanks for that. Your logic is good. Sorry I didn't do better. We need someone else non-establishment (believe me I an non-establishment!) for the next set of elections. People out there please think about how you can make things better.

David.

The alternative David is to leave en-masse then they will have to listen. After the things I have seen and heard of BASC I would prefer to support the hardworking at BASC, we are at an impasse I feel.
