BASC deer stalkers register - this is not a slight to those without DSC2

Neither is a computer or internet to enable you to register, or an FAC, or Rifle or bullets or vehicle to get to the ground they offer you........Honestly. Cry me a river!

I could not care less about the money side - but thats why its done - what next the same for pigeon - vermin - fox ?

Just don’t see the point of DSC2. I have a few areas I cover contract culling and always need a hand. People say to me ‘can I bring a mate ? He’s DSC2’

Means zero to me. I don’t really care he can tell the difference between a sika ear and red deer behind a tree in bad light whilst in a storm. Care even less he can tell me where all the lymph nodes are.

Safety safety safety! Can he actually stalk and find deer. Can he shoot straight, can he follow up. Can he be polite to the client if they show up. That’s all that really.

Basc need to look a bit closer to home & do some sort of test for game shooters
Been beating & picking up over last 25 years & can only say level shooting / gunmanship has went south … only my observation people on here been doing it longer may not agree
Started my apprenticeship at 12 years old ferrets then lurchers terriers air guns to where I am now shotgun cf rifles .. 59 now been a long road & every days a school day
Think al be forced down the road for dsc1 don’t mind as long as a learn something new

That’s not strictly true @Conor O'Gorman you do have to join BASC whose annual subscription nearly twice that of other societies offering similar insurance without the register. So one could argue it is costing you the hike in annual fees.
Yes the register is only for BASC members. It is what it is. BASC members also get free advice from our experts and specialist departments and free entry to some events. If you are not a BASC member and interested to join see: Join

All that for twice the price bargain I’d say. 🤣🤣

I don't understand, you stated earlier something alone lines of 'money money money'. The BASC register is free and the qualifications side of things is what some landowners require. You mention pigeon vermin fox. In NI for many years we have run a scheme with UFU. Its different circumstances but the same principle and again its not about money. Details here: NI/UFU Pest Control Scheme

Those that have availed of these and other benefits would definitely say that its a bargain. 'Twice the price' of what I am not sure what you mean though. If you are happy with whatever you have that is great, it is rather silly though to be spending time knocking something else unless it is something you desire in which case feel free to join BASC.

Come on you know that the annual subscription to BASC is roughly twice the price if other game organisations.
It has always been the same.
The fact that BASC publish that they are going to conferences at the members expense and have lavish annual meetings has put people off.
See posts above.

I think it’s a good idea if you have got off your arse and qualified why shouldn’t we benefit the only ones moaning are the ones who have plenty of stalking , guides making money , unless you have a big wallet stalking is difficult to come by and stitched up , this might give us members a break

Well, if you go to the game fair you will save up to £68 alone.

I really can't believe that this bitching and moaning about something that BASC is doing for the benefit of its members has gone on for four pages.

How about BASC maintain a list of its suitably qualified members, should they receive a request for assistance.
The NGO deer group maintain a list of its suitably qualified members.
The BDS maintain a list of its suitably qualified members.
The SGA maintain a list of its suitably qualified members.

And the DMQ maintain a list of all suitably qualified persons regardless of affiliations or not.

Exactly, seems some members just want a bitchfest at BASC regardless.

Could even be a t shirt and badge for exclusive list members of any and all groups to reassure the hordes of land owners needing unpaid help and assistance. Send £100 to ….. and all this might be yours.🤥😀
Was forgetting a nice sticker for the truck or car to show the antis which one to damage could be optional.
Edit. Formation of basque replete with uniform and id card😂

"Similar insurance"? Well, when it comes to insurance, there are two key points of difference:

1) BASC insurance is first resort. I don't know of any other shooting org whose insurance is anything other than last resort. (If you don't appreciate the distinction, you should look it up).
2) BASC is directly regulated by the FCA. This means that it can be held to account by an external regulator for the advice and service it provides to members on insurance matters. Again, I am not aware of any other shooting org that is regulated by the FCA - they simply pass you through to a third party, over whom they have zero influence. They cannot even discuss your insurance needs with you in any detail, officially.

Now, I would never attempt to advise anybody on their insurance needs. It's a highly personal thing, depending on your own circumstances and priorities. But just be aware that not all insurance is comparable and this tends to be reflected in the price, which is itself only a small part of a membership fee (less than £5 of the NGO subscription, for instance).

I am a member of BASC, NGO, BDS and GWCT. The last two are charities, and I consider my subscription to them, specifically, as acts of goodwill. I also know that two or three years ago BASC funnelled £300K to GWCT, after the latter's fund raising was hit by covid.
