BASC Trophy measuring.

I get mone done at one of the game fairs each year by the BDS i drop them off and collect them later in the day have always found they helpful and have watched them do it while i wait aswell!

How can you say that BASC (I) am just brushing this under the carpet?

I told you earlier today that I have replied to ALL you messages promprty.

I told you that I have spoken to Alan to get a heads up from him,

I have told you that i am waiting to speak to Chris who has ordered the medals to see where we are

David I dont think members on here are saying that you are brushing anything under the carpet. Personally I think you have to be commended for coming on here and answering a barage of complaints from folk. And I have to say in a most professional way.

However this medal business, well not to put to fine a point on it, if BASC take about 2 years to access and measure a head and issue the medal, you could reasonably expect people not be to happy ;)

Customer satisfaction is of paramount importance if you want to keep your customers.

Just read in the BASC magazine that when the CIC formula for roe is updated, BASC are going to continue to use the old system so we will have two parallel scoring systems running in the UK which seems a bit crazy. I wouldn't have thought that fieldsports needed anymore divisions than it already has. Can anyone confirm when this is likely to happen and any more details? JC

Dear all,

When the idea for changing the CIC scoring system for Roe was raised within the CIC, some of its member national delegations were less than happy with the rationale and consequences of tinkering with something that they considered wasn’t broken.

Indications are that the proposed changes will not take place and BASC will continue to benchmark against the current CIC system but as always retains the option to use any measuring criteria that it wishes to use.

This stance is not divisive within UK field sports as those who wish to have trophies measured can use several international systems such as SCI, CIC, Boone and Crockett etc. If you require any further information then please contact CIC at the link below:

Perhaps I could try to throw a little light onto this issue, just to ensure that there are no misconceptions. I don't know who made the comment in the BASC Magazine but he or she did not contact the UK Trophy Commission beforehand to check the validity of the assumption made that the CIC is going to change its formulae.

The current, and ongoing review of trophy measuring formulae within the CIC is not restricted to Roe, it covers a number of species, many of which are not found in the UK. There is a healthy debate, not only within the CIC but with other international systems around the world (including Boone & Crockett, SCI, Rowland Ward and Dallas Safari Club) about the future and as the UK Commission has a representative on the working group, we in the UK have a strong voice in what eventually might come into effect. Comparability with previous formulae will however be an important aspect of any proposals. One or two changes to African species have already been implemented and others, including Red and Roe are the subject of debate particularly within Europe. The outcome is not clear; until it is, we carry on with what we have! It may be of course that there will be no changes, but I confirm that no decision has yet been made.

Secondly, whilst BASC might use the CIC's internationally copyrighted system, any measurements that they might make are not CIC measurements and are not officially recognised or published, simply because their measurers are neither accredited by the CIC International Trophy Commission nor trained to international standards, and continually updated on measuring techniques.

Well said `cicuk`.
I have one here shot by a guest a little while ago which I will get down to you at the `Midland` by which time the stautory 90 days should have elapsed.
Currently it weighs about 500 gramms uncut so it should be medal standard.

HWH.

i have a roe buck sitting at 485g full skull and i will be heading to the CLA game fair to have it measured !

i would not dream of of having any one else but the cic measure it !

cheers lee

I have never had a head measured, but if/when I do it will be CIC. If its worth doing its worth doing right.

i remember an article in i think shooting times by someone from cic stating that they were indeed looking to change the method and go more "volume" orientated for measuring.
the way the article was written if i remember corrctly was worded as if this was a definitive change that was going ahead.
im probably wrong but that was my take on it.

on another note ive only been fortunate enough to have 3 heads measured and im grateful for those 3.
i had them done at scone gamefair and at that time i was not happy with the service i recieved at all.

ignored , talked down to, treated and spoken to like the sh*t on someones shoes....

anyway i know of a lot of scottish gents who were of the same opinion......
i therefore asked and recieved a fantastic service from a tony dalby welsh of cic down in england.

on another note regarding cic listings that are made in shooting times , my brother has had wrong details printed for all measurements against a gold medal in his name, also another gold measured head that wasnt listed at all...it was recorded but never made the listings.....so how accurate is the data if its not being kept properly...?

i will probably send my heads away in future rather than go to a game fair and pay to be treated like a 3rd class citizen, if im lucky to have a head to be measured in the future

and as said before i know alot of others who have the same opinion.

Just keeping all updated, still no word from the BASC deer department and still no medals, not even any reply to my phone calls asking what is happening to the medals. This is not what you would expect from a professional organisation.

Looks a nice trophy leec6.5 good luck, yes CIC still seems to be on the ball, BASC cant even phone back after i leave phone messages.
