So the BDS is going to stop selling its members sportsmans insurance. I have been a member for 25 years and not sure what to do, as my main shooting these days is Stalking. What are other members going to do ? Wf1

I have still not had any corespondents feom BDS over this and been using their insurance foe many years. Just as it’s convenient and does everything I need.

I had to email them after I was picking up reading it on other sites . Apparently the cost this year has gone up 300% so they have decided to shelve it

The underwriter decided not to insure our sector then they were persuaded to but at a completely unrealistic rate. There are very few underwriters who are prepared to take on our types of risk partly because of reputation damage and partly because there isn’t much money in it.

It is my experience of insurance companies they like to make 80% profit on their insurance product clasification hence the giant increase, giant profit for them, take it or leave it. I think this is the price of covid, companies are trying to make up their profits where they think they can get away with it.

I am going to use country covers club. Similar cost to the BDS insurance for similar level of cover from what I can see.
Most people who use them speak very highly of Country Covers Club.

I am with SGA. Will move to CCC if/when they ever screw shooters over like BASC have.

I've just had a look at Cliverton's Game Keeping/Deer Stalker policy- £250, but covers paying guests, unlimited venison sales, equipment, £5mn public liability & £5mn professional liability.

Thats good ! Better cover than mine was providing at a slightly smaller premium.
Mine did not renew last year as they will no longe provide insurance where firearms are involved, I have not looked for insurance as have been unable to work due to covid restrictions if I do get back to work if and when things ease then I
will certainly contact these people
Thank You.

I’ll be honest if the insurance isn’t on offer come renewal for me they’ll be no renewal of membership - I wonder how many others are of the same frame of mind?
The magazine is an interesting read, I have access to a local range once a month for most of the year but the primary reason for membership is the insurance. Same if it is canned :(

The BDS iare a charity it's remit is to provide information and education for all who are interested in deer not just
stalkers ( though there are quite a few members who are) but all with an interest in deer.
As such insurance is not of great interest to many of their members.

Still a very good organisation regardless of the insurance issue.

I was thinking like this but then I actually looked at what I was paying.

You pay extra for the insurance over the membership. Cost of membership and CCC insurance is not that much different to having it with BDS and being a member.

For the same sort of money you can do both.
