Hi , can I give a shout out for the British deer society mentoring scheme , Ive just had a day with them on the estate at heacham , Norfolk . Having passed my dsc1 but not having got out to stalk this scheme was fantastic , their guide glyn was an absolute gent ,professional patient and no question unanswered , two stalks am& pm . There’s an estate rifle to use , (just as well as I’m still waiting patiently for my fac to drop through the door ! )
I shot my first deer , a muncjac which glyn gralloched , followed by another muncjac then a Chinese water deer so my chance to do a couple of grallochs while being walked through it
This is a great idea for anyone wanting to gain experience with someone to help and mentor and I’d recommend it , there was never a mention of not shooting any deer ( safely of course ) or extra money in case it was a trophy specimen .
I don’t think it will be my only visit !
Judging from some of the adverts I’ve seen for guided stalking I this this also represents fantastic value for money
