Bds mentoring scheme

Hi , can I give a shout out for the British deer society mentoring scheme , Ive just had a day with them on the estate at heacham , Norfolk . Having passed my dsc1 but not having got out to stalk this scheme was fantastic , their guide glyn was an absolute gent ,professional patient and no question unanswered , two stalks am& pm . There’s an estate rifle to use , (just as well as I’m still waiting patiently for my fac to drop through the door ! )
I shot my first deer , a muncjac which glyn gralloched , followed by another muncjac then a Chinese water deer so my chance to do a couple of grallochs while being walked through it
This is a great idea for anyone wanting to gain experience with someone to help and mentor and I’d recommend it , there was never a mention of not shooting any deer ( safely of course ) or extra money in case it was a trophy specimen .
I don’t think it will be my only visit !
Judging from some of the adverts I’ve seen for guided stalking I this this also represents fantastic value for money

Glyn is a top bloke. Met him when he was down at Sky Park Farm and I did my DSC1 shooting test with him.

I'm starting to get the idea of going guided to get trained for DSC2

There was a fella out same day on estate who was doing his dsc2 that was through bds , great place to do as there were plenty of deer saw muncjac , cwd , roe and fallow

There were two places to choose from , you would have to look on website where the other was but I think it may have been near Windsor but couldn’t swear to it

Norfolk is a definite no go without an overnight stop (or two) the other is Windsor, still 2.5 + hrs each way with good roads 😞

Swinley forest, which is Bagshot, not Windsor. But close enough, although closer to Ascot/Bracknell.

Don't think you could have asked for anyone better to guide you Glyn is very knowledgeable and experienced.
Did the deer management course of which he was the main tutor a few years ago
Thanks for sharing and good luck moving forward with your stalking!

Yes couldn’t have asked for a better day stalking , will definitely be going back hopefully keep getting experience and if the fac ever appears will try get some permissions , been waiting 8 months already !
