Bear Damage Control and the 444 Marlin

We got the first bear last wednesday !

I saw him when I was climbing my tree at 17:30 and he stayed in the woods between my partner and I for about three hours . He finally saw him and shot him at 20:30 .

My buddy shot him at about 6 meters . We weighed him ungutted at home and wis weight was 120 pounds or 54.5 kilos .

He used a Remington stainless synthetic 300 SAUM shooting my handloads of the Barnes 168 TSXT pushed with IMR4350 and lit with a Federal 215 .

jesus H!
you wouldn't want a misfire at that range

Chances are the bear would run away. I came face to face with a black bear with about 2.5 feet separating us. He disappeared like a puff of smoke. That said, a girl was attacked twice by the same black bear this past week. She was jogging and it hauled her down, she got away and ran, but it caught her again and clawed her up a bit. She is OK but the bear was, understandably, shot by The Authorities. Nasty creatures, bears.

What I want to know is if any of 6-Pt's friends reload. Seems they are always shooting his reloads!! ~Muir

I was about 6 miles from where this bear was killed in the park trout fishing and walked up on a bear got within a yard or two by accident and when I did we saw each other about the same time and as Muir says the bear hauled arse ! Actually the fellow that killed this bear doesn't reload as well as four of my other friends hence I work up there loads and load for them as long as they don't shoot massive amounts . I will NOT reload for any of their AR's !

I shot an M-16 for the first time in my life two weeks ago ! Fully auto is literally a BLAST . If I can ever afford one of those I will not shoot reloads in it either . Those PMC 62 grain Green Tips seem about right for fully auto !

I might add we skinned quartered and froze that bear once we got home . We have several friends that love bear meat . I on the other hand do not care for it . Normally it had a good taste but the texture of the meat reminds me of a rubber band !
