All automatic and semi guns are prohibited unless it has a magazine that cannot take more than 2 cartridges.

So the 7 shot cannot be used unless it has the magazine modified so that it is restricted to two cartridges. Whether this needs to a permanent or temporary restriction I don’t know.

In the US where game laws again mostly restrict to two cartridges in magazine when shooting wildfowl, semis and pumps are supplied with a wooden plug that is inserted into the magazine tube.

surely, even with a magazine restriction/new magazine it is still held on and listed as a section 1 weapon.
I always thought a section 1 SG can never become a section 2 SG, but the reverse is possible.
but i will probably stand corrected.

Speaking from personal experience, You can fit a plastic magazine restrictor rod into the spring in the magazine tube to limit the magazine capacity back to two. Have a chat with your firearms department. You can have your firearms certificate with your section 1 shotgun on it amended so that as a condition, your shotgun can be used to shoot vermin and AOLQ with the restrictor in place.

Eg -

The 12 bore Benelli S/L shotgun, serial number ####### ( whilst a restrictor plug is in place) may also be used for shooting vermin and any other lawful quarry on land over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot.

Hi,
I've got a 7+1 Benelli 12 bore. Trouble is, sometimes I want to go duck/ geese shooting with it. Is there a way I can easily/ cheaply (ish) buy a smaller magazine to keep it legal?

As a FIREARM capable of holding more than TWO cartridges in the magazine your multi-shot shotgun is specifically prohibited - irrespective of wooden dowels, plastic inserts or good intentions - PLUS, the FAC Condition that covers the USE of this same gun will have restrictions on what/when/where, etc. it can be used....

"BEST" OPTION?
Either look for a cheap Section 2 version of the same shotgun, OR, permanently restrict your own gun to two-shot, re-submit to Proof and have it moved from your FAC to your SGC.....then you can use it for wildfowl & the like as it will meet the legal requirements and also, as it will be on SGC, not have any FAC style "conditions" on its usage.
