Berghaus Kibo Boots

I have read quite a few threads where members are looking for new boots and opinions on which are best.

After a lot of research I have bought a pair of Berghaus Kibo's . . . . I looked at all the usual suspects, Meindl, Harkila, Crispi etc and concluded that for the money, {175.00} and in terms of features the Kibo's were unbeatable . . . time will tell how well they wear and how long they last.
I intend pairing them with a set of Yeti gaiters so i'm hoping for a good winter outfit.

Maybe worth considering if like me you stalk cold wet ground.

Alright, How's things.

If ur going down the yeti route i jist found an ebay shop that sells them for 25-40 quid ex army.
About £70ish for new pair

Like them that much I've jist bought a second pair and there like new, well chuft:D

I had the light weight corduru berghaus boots with the yeti gaiters years back.

They were great, water tight and light weight.

Hi pal, hope your well.
I already had the yeti's . . . I tried to fit them to my Brashers GTX's but the bastwards wouldnt fit properly, the sole wasn't stiff enough and the yeti's just distorted them all out of shape.
I wish I had known about the ebay shop . . . mine cost £80 knicker, although they are the insulated ones.
I'm heading to the hinds this coming week so we'll see how they perform on the hill.

Maybe i'm just a pussy, but have you ever bought a product that was so hard to fit . . . . I even broke one of my stick on false nails :oops:

Update on my Berghaus Kibo boots and Yeti gaiters -

As I type this they are both currently winging their way back to Berghaus . . .

The gaiters rubber rand has split in three different places and the Kibo boots, as comfy and warm as they were, have lost a lacing eyelet . . . . this combination cost the best part of £300 quid 4 weeks ago and they have already developed faults . . . . . I am not a happy bunny.

I should have went for the Crispi Stegs I fear !!!!

Lets see what Berghaus have to say about it.

Meindl Dovre extreme. Nuff said !
60s sprung soled hill boots ,70-80s screw on comando soles ,90s fabric and rubber , then i found Meindl ,yes the only fault of the Meindl Dovre is they are 40 odd years too late,i have two prs on the go ,

I have written a damning report back to Berghaus UK and also the supplier I bought them from . . lets hope their customer service is up to scratch and they issue me with a full refund.

Cardex if they are faulty you should insist on your money back and by law they must give you a full refund. I think I have read other threads on the law on refunds for defective gear. Perhaps if you run a search on the SD site it will through up past threads. Good luck. ps recently got the Meindle dovre and really impressed

4 weeks and a split rand on the gaiter?
thats tough

Can I ask how you put them on (not that it makes any difference but others may learn)?
they benefit from being warmed up in a pan of hot water to make them stretch more. Once on I tend to leave them on but treat them long term with a rubber conditioner (washing up liquid is as good as any if you rub it in and leave it!)

I have a pair of Scarpa SL boots that I got for my 21st birthday along with a pair of yeti gaitors
the boots have worn the gaitors pretty much exclusively since purchase

I think I have had the gaitors re-randed 3 times in total, they are still waterproof and the boots whilst a little worn on the sole still perform as they should. I dry them properly when needed, use was oil/Ko cho line on the leather and I silicon the yetis on for extra leak resistance between rand and boot.

They are 18yrs old.

Hi Brewsher -

Yes, can you believe it 4 weeks before splitting, pile of sheeeeite !!!!

And the boots - lacing eyelet popping off, I would have been better buying an old pair of school sand shoes !!!!

In terms of fitting them, I just applied a bit of heat with my Mrs hair dryer and pulled them on.

I have been well and truely put off Berghaus gear and won't buy again.

4 WEEKS I SAY, 4 FRIGGING WEEKS THEY LASTED !!!!!

Are you listening Berghaus ? I'm telling everyone with ears how little time they lasted !!!!

This is what you get for moving production to China !!!!!!!

Just a final report on my Berghaus saga . . .

As much as I was disappointed with the quality of my Berghaus boots and gaiters, I can't fault their customer service which to be fair has been exemplary . . .After having been examined by Berghaus UK, they have offered a full refund including postage.

Well done Berghaus . . . . many other manufacturers would have tried to wriggle out of their responsibilities.

Now lets try and find a decent pair of boots that will last more than 4 weeks !!!!

The previously mentioned Scarpa SLs are very good though I think they've stopped making the old ones and replaced them with a new SL so I don't know how good they are. I managed to get an old stock pair of the older type, they wear well and while I'd never get 18 years out of them I do manage maybe 3 years. They are comfortable and take little or no breaking in. I find they have more ankle support than the Mendil Douvres that I have which was a surprise to me and I actually prefer the Scarpas for difficult hill stalking and wear the Mendils for forestry type stalking.

My first decent pair of Walking boots were Berghaus, they lasted about 6 months before the inner lining in the heel wore through and uncovered the Gore-Tex.
I took them back to the shop who offered to replace them, I would have to wait while they ordered them as they no longer stocked that model :???:
I opted for a similarly priced pair of Scarpa boots, the best move I could have made, now I only wore them for fishing and working around the lakes (but no shovel work)
they lasted me 11 years, the suede panels had started to split and had been glued up, the soles were nearly bald and the lacing eyes were just about worn through
when they finally started to leak, I rushed out to buy another pair immediately, unfortunately I found the newer ones not so well made, and made in china.
I now have a pair of fabric and nubuck Berghaus gore-tex again, over 2 years old now and still waterproof, but they aren't going to last much longer, not sure what to buy next.

Neil. :)
