if you go onto ebay and type in tasco offshore you will see new 7 x 50 binos for sale at £129 they are waterproof fog proof and the optics are great, they do have a built in compass which is a bit of a waste unless you also sail. i have had a pair of these for over twenty years and i would not swap them, i am sure you dad will be over the moon with them.
