Best 22LR Sound Moderator

Somewhere, I've got an air rifle moderator that has the same thread as the Parker Hale. It has just one baffle that is not fixed and moves against a very floppy spring inside the casing. Almost as quiet as the Parker Hale, and no need to have a FAC to purchase, but would need a FAC if it was fitted to a 22rf, of course.

I’ve a 25 yr old Parker Hale that I’ve just had reblacked to match my T1x

Cannot be beaten.
Agreed they do the job and I’ve gone so far as to completely re-finish one and when devoid of all machining marks and polished within a inch of its life with Solvoautosol, had it professionally blued.

There's very little difference in sound level with any of the moderators designed for use with 22 subsonics
SAK is probably the cheapest and just as good as much more expensive models.
Don't be swayed by hyped up claims of special designs and materials.
A 22 subsonic round has very little powder in it so it doesn't take a large volume to handle the gas produced by firing.
Go down to your local RFD - he probably has loads of old moderators lying around so you should be able to pick one up for small money

Cheers

100% agree Bruce. sak at £40 is as good as anything else, i also have an Atech at three times the price which is no better than the Sak. Don' t get sucked in to the advertising hype a mod is a mod and far more important than the sound signature is how it stands up over time. my Sak must be fifteen years old and has lots of life in it yet.

I have used sak and a-tec cmm4 and I'm currently using a wildcat panther. They all work but I prefer the panther. The build quality is excellent and it is so easy to strip and clean which is important to me .

I have listened to a SAK and panther side by side and the panther is defiantly quieter! 👍🏼 I use one in my 17 so o am very tempted to get another!

I have a SAK you can have for free. Don't be fooled with marketing claims, with 22 subsonic theres so little powder all mods sound exactly same, whether £5 or £100.

SAK are good but to my ears the DPT’s are even better - the click of the firing pin is louder!

I don’t know if the fact I had the SAK on a Cz 16” barrel abs my DPT is on my T1X which is also short barrel.

Gixer

i liked the carbon swift precision one. light well built and offered good performance. you wont notice that much difference in a lot of them with sub ammo anyway.

I've got one of these on the .17 and .22, knocks spots off the pakerhale by miles
I agree with most folk in that all the rimfire mods I've ever used are pretty effective. However I have one of theses AU's and have to say its probably the quietest I've ever used. Not cheap but very effective on a .22rf.

100% agree. Build quality worlds apart. My SAK showed signs of wear after several years of heavy-ish use whereby my Wilcats look as good as new - not the easiest to clean, admittedly

Moved from a sak to a panther and could not be happier. Nothing wrong with the SAK but in terms of engineering and finish leaps and bounds ahead.

How much of a rush might you be in? I’m working with a couple of RFDs near Scarborough on a newly designed moderator that’ll be available in both RF and CF.

The RF version ‘sounds’ extremely quiet; I’m currently waiting for a working prototype to test on my .22 and will keep you posted if you’d like!
Is your moderator out yet?
