Wanted: Best Flights to Namibia Windhoek

Guys, I have been to SA three times now so I now have a prefered so I know my prefered carrier and the routine. In March next year I am going to Namibia for 14 days hunting, a couple of questions

1) Who are the best carriers in terms of speed least hassle and price

2) Can you check your rifle with your baggage straight through to Windhoek so no checks in any other airport such as Johannesburg, Frankfurt Abu Dhabi etc

All help greatly appreciated

We flew Eurowings to Namibia this year. You fly via Frankfurt or Cologne and then straight down to Windhoek. Very good and comfortable - we went economy plus and all three of us are 6ft and still comfortable. They do transport Firearms but charge €100 per segment. Given that we were there for three plus weeks and travelling around and only did a couple of days hunting decided not to bother with taking a rifle and instead used one there at Namseb. There were quite a few hunters from Germany on our flights - judging by their long cases and hunting clothing.

Our flight left Cologne late evening and arrived 7am. We got connecting flights to Cologne from heathrow in the afternoon.On way back flight took off early evening, arrived early morning, changed to heathrow flight and arrived c8am.

Over on Accurate Reloading every body rates Emirates. Not sure if they fly direct to Windhoek. I would rather do the transfer in Europe, rather than in J'Burg.

Tazz, you don't say were you are departing from? We always fly SAA from Heathrow via Johanesberg to Windhoek. All bags, rifles checked direct to Windhoek. All for about £600 return.

I have a Namibia trip pencilled in for March too. SAA from LHR to WDH via JNB looks the best option so far. I am glad to hear you can check the bags all the way through to final destination. One question: do you need to process the SA police SAPs 250 form? Or is that uneccessary because the firearms never leave OT baggage handling?

hi Zambezi, no you do not need any SA police docs you are right as firearms don't lever OR handling.That is the beauty of going to Namibia. You can email all your firearm details in advance and 10 minutes your on your way.

Heathrow to Windhoek with SAA is the way for me. Very little hassle. 4 trips now and never a problem.

SAA, Heathrow to windhoek by far the best ,stress free with firearms ,generally a couple of sales on flights through out the year January and September .Namibia a great hunting destination ,back over march then again in April. Guns will be checked through all you you need is a permit for rifle import which you can do online or when you arrive very simple pm if you need any other help /advice

Hi Zambezi,no you dont need sap 250 form for namibia just a firearm permit simple A4 form completed at entry at Windhoek or process on line before hand ,also take a look at th NAPHA website lots of info .pm if you need any further info

Hi Tusker, using Aru as the outfitter they have two camps one only an hour from Windhoek the other around 3 hours out the plan is to hunt for 7 days in each as the terrain in each is very different greener in one and more desert in the other Having now just about filled the house up with bits of dead things and I still have the last shipment from Graaf Reinet hunt near Port Elizabeth to come back I am doing a couple of trophies but the rest management animals, Eland, Oryx, Red Hartebeest and Wilderbeest. Taking my 300 win mag this will be it’s third outing

Now I wish I hadn't asked. I have 18 months to wait until my next visit to wonderful Namibia. What a great time you are going to have. Red Hartebeest is one of my favorites.

I know I depart from a different airport but we got a great deal this year with Ethiopian airlines. Change over in Addis Ababa and arrive in Windhoek at 1320 local. Booking it again for next year,very good value and no charge for firearms. 2 bags free but got caught for the ammo box which after we saw our bags off were told we could have put it in a suitcase !

Just had a quick look at their App and the cheapest flight in March was £545. Not too shabby !

Another vote for SAA.
I have flown to Namibia with them four times from Heathrow via Johannesburg to Windhoek.
Bags and rifle and ammunition are checked straight through to Windhoek and they don't charge for the firearms or excess baggage if you travel with sporting rifles.
So easy and trouble free.
