Best hot drinks flask?

I have Stanley flasks. They're ok, but very bulky, and heavy, for the volume they carry.

I was recommended to try the Thermos Ultra (mentioned above). It's a fraction of the size, for a comparable volume, although the larger version is 900cc v 1lt.

I find the Thermos more efficient than the Stanley, holding the heat far longer, BUT, heat retention is catch 22. The heat rating is based on how long the heat is retained, with a full flask, but as you introduce air space, the liquid cools far more quickly.

I don't know if I imagine it, but I'm sure once liquid is removed, it stays hotter if I keep it upright, rather than laid down. Could it be something to do with the surface area of the liquid ?

I use a Stanley food flask. 750 ml.
Keeps hot water steaming all day.
Since back at work we're not allowed to use our canteen. So Stanley 6.6lt coolbox and the food flask. Job done.

Stanley flasks are excellent and pretty robust it has to be said. Say it quietly, but there's rumours that some of the opposition have caught up in terms of performance. And I think you pay for the name with a Stanley too. But having said that, I still use a Stanley. :thumb:

The secret is to pre-heat the flask. Make twice the boiling water that you need. Pour half into the pot to make the tea and pour the other half into the flask. When the tea has mashed after five minutes empty out the water from the flask and pour the now ready tea into it and the job's a good 'un.

I have used a Lifesystems simple flask for 20 years and it has been faultless- I even took a tumble down a mountain with it and had a fully laden horse roll on it with me as well! I am very impressed with it. I also used it every day for coffee on the train to work.

When Paddy bought a flask he was disappointed with it and told his mate so saying that the man in the shop said it would keep hot things hot and cold things cold but it didn't. Mate asked what he had put in it. Paddy says "a cup of coffee and a choc ice"

I thought that until I had a luke warm coffee from one, I would say they aint wot they woz, I bought a small stainless steel flask from Tesco it was on a special offer so for less than a £5 it was throw away, but that was years ago and used it today as it happens. 'Stanley' naa save your money?

BC.
Agreed. Coffee in the Stanley I have is always Luke warm even after pre heating, after 3/4 hrs. The cheap thermal mug, contigo I think, bought from Tesco is way better

I bought the Contigo thermal mug when I was working in Canada last year and they are brilliant, It kept the coffee warm all day, They were on special in Asda recently for something like £5 so bought another one just as a back up.

Thanks all....i just ordered a Stanley 1.9L off FB Marketplace delivered for £36. Hopefully it will last as long. I mite not!

Bit late. I had a Stanley 35 + years, v ggod but very bulky. Some years ago I was given a Vanco flask and its what I use all the time. I also have several stainless steel insulated drinking cup/flasks. Take them every time I go on a foxing job. One is a Trespass other is Asobu both keep cofffee almost too hot to drink for 6 hours which is plenty. Better still in summer keep water very cold.

I have had a steel Thermos since the 1970s made in America and not available in the UK until several years later
was showing it off to workmates to had never seen anything like it explaining it was unbreakable knocked it off a wall to
prove the point whereupon it landed on the cup breaking both the cup and the stopper.
I then found that the thread was different and a cup and stopper from a UK Thermos would not fit so I wrote to
Thermos explaining what I had done ( probably gave them a good laugh) and enquired if they would send a cup and
stopper to the UK and the cost of said articles.
I received a very nice letter and a cup and stopper free of charge from Thermos .
The Thermos is still going strong today it has certainly been in the wars having quite a few dents in it including those
it received when some kind person ran it over with tractor ( some people have a strange sense of humour ) to show
that it was not unbreakable, it withstood that with only some minor dents.
Still use the Thermos on shoot days and so on but have a recent addition to my collection of flasks and sundry items
it is the new Stanley travel mug it holds a good amount has a locking spout ,you need to press a button to take a sip
so it can be carried in a pocket or whatever and keeps liquid hot for around five hours , ideal in the truck or in a highseat.

I’m a postal worker , and it’s a zojirushi for me , filled in the morning and still hot in the evening
