Hi, I’m about to invest in some quad sticks. I have seen photos and videos of making your own, but I’m gonna skip it until I’m more confident.

What brands and models do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance

I wish you had been my maths teacher, I probably would’ve done better at school. Thanks for instilling some confidence in to me!

Agree with VSS , knock some DIYers up and see how you get on.
A) Satisfying little shed project to keep out of her indoors way.
B)Cheep , you can then try a mates expensive ones to see if they are worth the extra hard earned.

I recently knocked up a set for a friends lad as they could not find any short enough off the shelf. See Pic.

I have my DIYers and some good value Bushcraft ones but often prefer the DIYers.

I always take a set with me to act as a third leg , as I have all the poise and balance of a 6’4” 17.5 st Ballerina 😂. But in the woods usually end up taking a rest off a tree to save time and get a bit of extra cover.4BB2062C-E84D-44E0-B85F-14D4C48EAFBE.webp

Additional expenditure of a few pence on a couple of short lengths of bungey cord (to prevent the sticks opening too wide) gives you this somewhat more refined "deluxe" model.
With the B&Q canes left at their original length, and rubber grommets used for the four joints, no tools or skill were required in the construction and total time spent was about 20 minutes.
Confident shooting deer up to my self-imposed maximum distance of 230yds off these.

Do you know how far the threaded rod goes into the ground through those two brick pavers? And is there a Dri-lean sub-base under all that? It's got me intrigued :-|, wondering how secure it is.

1 hacksaw 4 poles 4 bolts with nuts and washers, drill 8 holes 2 bits of cord, takes about 25mins.

The hard bit is learning how to deploy them as quads or twins picking the bit of ground so you can get them out and ready for the rifle. Not getting flustered when a bit of bramble gets caught in them as you want to more as the quarry has moved.
Best thing is shooting rabbits using them as they move quite a lot so the fine touch needed comes easy.

I tried Bushwear about 10 years ago and they fell apart. I don't know if they are better now.

I have been using the Viperflex since and love them. I hear what people say about building your own but the big advantage of the Viperflex is that the front rest has some lateral travel. This allows you to move the rifle a little to the left or right should the animal move, but not require you to reposition the sticks.

I was fairly new to stalking when I got the Viperflex and they really gave me the confidence to take the shot. For me, they were one of these relatively expensive things that were worth the money.

(There was another tread on this and Postman Pat mention some other sticks which I had not heard of and may be worth looking at, or contacting him. Mjoelner Hunting FENRIS II CARBON FIBRE Quad Sticks – Best Fox Call.)

A set of B&Q deluxe for me, they have a length of canvas webbing across the tops of the front poles that allows me to pan left & right by quite a bit without having to move the sticks. Whole job was less than £20 and it works far better than I expected.
However you could spend another £500 and they'll play a tune for you.

I’ve been making my own for years out of 15mm dowelling and never had a problem other than sometimes they were a bit noisy and sometimes a bit awkward to setup when your on a deer and trying to be quiet and quick. I recently bought some 4 Stable Sticks, which were very quiet, easy to put up in a hurry, fit nicely into your hand unlike some of these very chunky carbon fibre all singing all dancing sticks that you need a mortgage to buy.
