Best red dot sight for a .410 Hushpower pump action Mossberg 500?

Hello all,

I'm looking to fit a picatinny rail and some form of reflex/red dot/holographic (forgive my terminology, it isn't my field of expertise) type of sight for the above mossberg pump. I have seen these have been fitted for more effective shooting/use of this type of shotgun.

Does anyone have any reccommendations?

Glad you're fitting a red dot, I had a .410 hush power pump and it was awful to shoot with! Good luck in finding something suitable.

Reknagel make a picatinny rail that fits to the rib on the barrel. Not seen one in the flesh only ina catalogue but looked like a good idea. Didnt seem to be many options for the .410 size action?

Looked at a picatinny but thought it would be too big so opted for a long fibre optic sight and glued it to the rib just before the moderator. It gives enough of a visible glow to blank out the drainpipe behind it! Plus it weighs considerably less and no drilling is the action.
Put one on a 12bore hush power too but on the mod itself. They work a treat.

Best you get a feed bag and open it up, put a black central dot or a bit of tape then for the. 410 I gave it 30 paces and put the bead just under the dot. Turned out it was a tad low so now everything I shoot at gets covered by the bead.
My 12bore with the drain pipe was shooting high and right.

Did you ever find anything?
I went for a Hawke wideview reflex with a 2moa red dot and a 35moa circle around it. Its called the circle dot reticle. It looks great and its easy to adjust brightness and zero it. Parrallax free from 10 yards, so perfect for shotgun ranges. The wideview means its around a 36mm size lens I think? Which is quite large for a reflex sight, especally compared to many of the mini models out there by Delta and the like.

I can't currently mount it because I haven't got a picatinny rail fitted. The mossberg 500 is pre 1997 so no drilled and tapped receiver holes for a rail. In terms of rail options that can can clasp around the whole receiver, like you can get from brownells, they are too large for .410 and only fit 12b and 20b. If anyone wishes to know. Also, the majority of picatinny/shotgun Rib conversion one-pieces do not fit because they fit upto 8.2mm which I think is a standard across alot of semi autos and some over/unders. But you need a upto 3/8" Rib adaptor rail to fit a mossberg 500 rib, others are too small. For anyones interest, the only one available in the UK, is a long two-piece sold by ANT SUPPLIES and its a 2 week order-in wait, as they don't hold stock. So I currently have one on order.

I've just ordered one of these for mine, clamps straight on the the rib. Downside is I didn't realise it's from China and won't be here till next year.
