Best scope for around £1200?

I'm looking at glass scopes for around the £1200 mark.

A review suggested the following might be good options.

1. Delta Stryker 4.5-30x56
2. Burris Veracity PH 4-20x50
3. Zeiss Conquest V4 4-16x50 or 6-24x50
4. Steiner Ranger 4 4-16x44

What else would people throw into the mix

I aim to do UK stalking and 200-500yd targets on the range.

Is the target shooting known distance, will you be dialling for elevation and wind or holding for wind. Is this scope to combine as a stalking rifle or purely a target scope. Do you want FFP or SFP

Target shooting will require adjustment for windage and elevation. Yes ideally both target and stalking. Open minded on FFP vs SFP.

When have you ever read a bad review on anything?

Id rather go for a second hand nightforce, probably the most robust optic out there.
Likewise any better quality scope thats had that new smell worn off. Lots of scope for the £££

Nightforce NSX - I like the 3.5-15 for pretty much the same thing as you describe and they can be bought second hand easily for about £650 if you take your time.

Alternatively the 5.5-22 would be a bit better for the targets with the downside of weight

What's the difference between the 42 and the 50 referenced above aside from presumably price?
The max ring spacing is a bit shorter on the x50. I have both, and can't fit the x50 on a long action Remington without using a rail.
4.7mil of adjustments will get you out to 500m with anything like a decent round,

Whether you like this answer or not - I think you need to have a think about where your compromise is going to be. The delta, whilst a good scope is huge and heavy. Its also a 34mm tube. It lends itself more towards target than stalking use and the ret is pretty fine at lower power.

The polar opposite to that is the v4. A small, light weight scope with noway near as much internal adjustment and a 30mm tube.

If its going on your ace game I'd be wanting to loose some weight and go zeiss...

Worth a punt, I have absolutely 0 connection with the seller but its a cheap scope that will tick your box's above

Dependant on the reticle and style of shooting you can hold for both with the correct reticle. If you plan on dialling the fussy reticles are not ideal, if it is known distance only. If you want one rifle and scope to do not the delta will work but the reticle is cluttered for stalking. A used Leica PRS with the 4 a reticle. Or the zeiss but go 6-24 to ramp the magnification up for targets.

It really is a trade off, I have a Leica PRS on my ace game that I would trade out for something like a Zeiss V6 5-30.

My target rifle currently has a Sightron S6 on top of it. A bargain just now from optics warehouse
