Best Sound Moderator

This is my first question on here so be easy with me as I'm just starting out in this branch of Fieldsport.
My question is what's the best overbarrel sound moderator for a Tikka.308 T3 Stainless.
Ta!

I have used and seen/heard being used several makes and models of moderators on several different calibres of rifle and cannot recommend any particular one.
I recently bought a F&D magnum hoping it was going to be better than the Dpt Magnum moderator I already have.
I used both in turn on a .308 using PPU 150gn bullets and to the Mk1 ear of several farm workers in the area at the time, the Dpt came out best for reduced noise.
The Dpt can have modules added to it at reasonable cost, which I may do later when I want to use my 30-06 if required, the F&D can't.
The F&D cost an arm and a leg, the Dpt only cost a leg, so it is up to you to decide.

DPT are very good. If you want to add extra modules for more sound attenuation you can. They are also very light.
I have a ASE Northstar on my .308. It's a heavy old lump but I'm sure it will last. I definitely prefer my DPT on the .243 you barely notice it.
If your doing loads of range work you might want heavy steel which may help a bit with recoil.
If your walking a lot and shooting less go lighter.

Hi Simon,

I have only used a couple o/b mods in the time ive been shooting both foxing and deer stalking,

I did use Wildcat Evolution mods recommend them well made british engineered design, strippable mod, good sound reduction,
competitively priced and cheaper to buy than other reflex mods,

I've gone to using Stalon mods with a W145 on my 243 the old model, not strippable compared to the evo, again well made product
my guide who I go to for roe stalking in yorkshire thought it was good,

They have a different model out now called the X108/X145 which is a lighter and slimmer design, you can still get hold of the W series from some rfds.

The other I can recommend not from owning it myself but when I started out deer stalking, my deer guide up in scotland had a dpt 6mm ob mod with
a couple of extra baffles added on the estates rifle that i used,

That was a really good sound mod strippable like the evo but customisable with the option to add extra and stainless baffles too,

I dont think you could go wrong with any of the above really

Thanks for all the info guys.
There's so much variety and choice that it could lead to some confusion but always best to ask the opinion of the experienced. I appreciate your help👍🏼

My personal preference now is a end can . I have tried a PSE long and to heavy . Dm80 well made but end can. ASE sl5i fantastic but heavy . DPT Is really good . My favourite is a Shultz and Larsen tdm 35 I now have two and will be getting one for my 22.250 . They are about £155.00 . Lightweight good sound suppression. Decibels. A deers hearing is not a Db sound testing machine . Some of the areas I shoot the sound bounces of the surroundings like cliffs. So makes no difference other areas the woodland helps suppress the sound of the shot . Simon you have a lot of good information posted on here .

I am using a dpt, atec hertz, and a stalon. I cant really tell the difference on the mk1 ear hole but the dpt is the smallest and lightest so thats the one I would buy again

What cal are you using them on please? Have you noticed any difference in recoil between the 3 mods on the same rifle?

Thanks

Stalon 270, dpt 6.5-284 and atec 6.5x47.
The 270 is the lightest of the rifle setups and recoils the most. The 6.5x47 recoils the least and the 6.5-284 just a bit more than the 47. Its hard to draw true comparisons though because they are all different setups with different mods. I at on time had a t8 on the 6.5-284 and when I changed the the dpt I didn't notice anymore recoil or noise but I did notice that the rifle was easier to carry and get ready to shoot

I now use DPT on all my rifles, from 22-250, 243, 6.5x55 to 30-06. I like the fact they are light, modular so you can change a baffle when one wears out (which they all do eventually), and as quiet or quieter as any others I have tried. reasonable price too.

Just a point on DM 80, I have had Dave make me a reflex style and an end can style - he will make you what you want size / length / calibre specific etc.
