Best Stalking Jacket

British Army Combat jacket goretex new pattern, long fit for sitting and rain run off. Has a fold away, cavernously large wired hood, and best of all,so very light to carry, packed away until needed.

Look at the Decathlon/SOLOGNAC range. They have various camouflaged jackets in various thicknesses and colours. I have a thin one that cost about £50 and is very waterproof and quiet and I am really pleased with it. I bought one a size too big and simply layer up underneath in the winter.

Norrona Finnskogen for me and Forestry Commission I believe. Light, quiet, waterproof. very breathable and has pit zips.
Perfect for hill stalking with layering, but expensive and quite hard to find now.

Norrona Recon is equivalent of the Arcteryx Leaf

If you know where to look both makes can be found for reasonable price and even used will give you years of hard use

No jacket is 100% but even when sodden will you be dry underneath...? Dragging a carcass in inclement weather ? - youll be wet.
The layer system mitigates and keeps you warm. If your underlayer remains wicking and warm and you have gloves hat and socks still dry and performing youll be ok.

Same here... got it last weekend after a fair wait (4 months) just been out in this sleety snow for 4hrs and I was dry... even though I am one sweaty b*stard when I am out stalking. Worn it 3 times now... early doors but I am impressed so far.

Not cheap but its UK made, tough, breathable and even better for me the workshop is 10minutes up the road.

Compared to the fortis trousers.... there is no comparison. The trousers are so unbreathable I started to think my boots were leaking or I had ****ed myself.....

I've got a nomad jacket(mine seems to be a goodun.... reviews are variable...no leaks, taped seams ok after 6 yrs and pretty breathable), had various deerhunter jackets and this is the best I have had by a country mile.

Ive got a fortis sas smock, its built really well and the sizing is really generous, which is great as im of a generous size. Is it the best? I dont know but its certainly waterproof and windproof and does everything I want

I’ve was given a MPT combat smock and I’ve subsequently bought MPT packite goretex jacket. The combination is the best solution when combined with layers for all conditions I’ve ever used.
The smock on its own for summer use is great over T-shirt, add base layers and fleeces etc as it gets colder. In the very cold or wet weather I wear the MPT goretex paclite underneath the smock to stay warm and dry.
I now use this combination for all my stalking and foxing but have to admit I still use the harkila or schoffel for driven shooting because I don’t really like being seen out in military surplus.
I once wore my harkila pro hunter on the hill hind stalking and nearly melted.

Arcteryx Leaf Alpha LT jacket - light, waterproof, excellent wind protection and hood

Sit down when you look at the price

Used mine in all weather along with the over trousers and you can work all day and be comfortable - warm and mobile
Had to look at one and that is indeed a hell of a lot of dosh for a layering garment of the outer shell variety.

How does the material stand up in a woodland environment in terms of noise and when ‘attacked’ by thorn and other prickly stuff?
