Best Thermal Scope

Evening

Looking to upgrade from a Pulsar XQ50 thermal scope. Mainly for deer, occasional fox, shots upto 200m max, particularly keen on better image to id fallow prickets from does.

Front runner is Nocpix H50R, seems to me a better image than the Stellar 3. New pulsar trail 3 is due out too.

Not fussed on budget. Any suggestions or feedback appreciated. Thanks.

I took a punt on a Thermtec Oryx-650L... Blackwoods had a good deal on them. Almost went for the Nocpix but chanced it!

640 sensor etc have been happy with it, got alot of hate from a certain individual, think now banned from SD 😂 I shall attempt to pop up a couple of videos from a drizzly night in SW Scotland helping a pal get onto a few foxes before his birds arrived for the season.

I have a Thermtec oryx and as above they very good
I also have Atn Tico 6 clip-on which I think would probably suit your needs better most deer are taken in day light hours with glass and most foxes are taken in night time hours so to me it would make sense for you to have a thermal add-on and so versatile

I was out testing the Oryx tonight. The digital magnification is a lot better than some of the other models out there for retaining quality.

If I had to choose a scope for high mag and 640px image quality, it would be the Rico 2 H75R. Probably one of my favourite scopes, using the white hot palette. Although its a heavy beast being 75mm lens. I like the ballistics there spot on, the angle indication is accurate and image quality allows for longer range shots, plus 2560px display.

Also the Ace S60R is a real good scope also.

What would you recommend for those of us on a budget Ian? Something in the £2K to £3K price range.

I’d agree with Ian if money is no object. I had the Nocpix 50 wasn’t overly impressed. Prefered my ares 660 I picked up second hand. Looked through the stellar 50 and 60 side by side there was a noticeable difference

Bolt H50R or wait a week for something another notch up, more money but at a good price. :)

I was out during winter in real muggy conditions and the NocPix Ace S60R punched through the worst of it whilst others lost a lot of contrast alongside, same for the Rico H75R target detail was great regardless.

A lot does depend on budget.

The Stellar 3.0 SQ50L and Ace H50R are the most popular models by far in the £3000 - £3500 price range.

If your looking for a 640px model under £2500 then look at the NocPix Bolt H50R or Pixfra Pegasus 2 P650L .

If money is no object look at the NocPix Ace S60R, Stellar 3.0 SX60L .

If you want the best detection range and long range animal image. NocPix Rico 2 H75R.

Saying that the Oryx 650L is ambidextrous centre focus, 640px, inline LRF, 2560px display and runs on a single 21700 so lasts a long time. I have one of these left if your looking for a deal, key points from using it, nice display, digital mag is improved a lot, it actually degrades less than all the other manufacturers through the zoom range. It also is one of the few scopes that has a rear zoom ring and this can be also used on the second centre turret ring, Thermtec have catered for all users with this.. others have went all daft using a digital zoom ring at the rear like a optical day scope. I don't like this design at all, day optics have to have this by design, but the beauty of digital is it can be placed anywhere, the centre turret falls easy to hand without changing shooting hold position too much, having to reach close to your eye to zoom in and out is a poor design. Not a fan of the Thermight/Zulus throw lever, Alpex Pro throw lever or Tallion/Trail zoom rings near the eye, it does not fall to hand easy in the real world, IMO poor designs. BUT some will say it's what the market wants, maybe for someone who doesn't get out and use them, but not real shooters who actually know what there doing, your taking your holding hand totally off the rifle to adjust them , up and down.

Thanks Ian, sent you DM

Been using the SQ50 for a while now and don’t have any complaints, Have also heard good things about the Nocpix range. Best advice would be to go and look through each of them as you’ll find you will have you own preference as each display gives a completely different picture in my opinion.
