I do love a book.

Our little band was in the Limpopo earlier this year.

As always, you meet some fascinating people (often the best part of the trip).

All of our wee group bought this book, from one of the PHs. It is a tremendous read.

If you love Africa, if you love Safari and adventure, you could do worse than get yourself a copy.

Knew his great nephew back home,Jannie Pretorius, called Baas Nyati by his workers because of the centr parting swept back hairstyle, looked like the boss on a buffalo.
Great adventurer, travelled to my country with Rhodes flying column as a 16/17 year old, would love to have shared a bottle with the Major around the fire. Bet he had some tales to tell.
Excellent read.

Jannie gave me 35 years so presumably passed on by now. He was a good hunter himself, shot with dad up the Kafue and in the Luangwa. Ranched between Bulawayo and Beit Bridge, well respected by everyone. Also very proud of his great uncle, even though he helped the rooinekke in WW1!
Lost generation now,old Africa has gone.

Personally I love the hat - looks like a Stetson as issued to the Canadian mounted troops who served in the Boer War.

The closest to it today would, I guess, be the Stetson Campaign or Ranger hat, or perhaps the “Lemon Squeezer” worn by some New Zealand forces?

"Anti-leopard outfit" as opposed to something Bet Lynch might wear being a pro-leopard outfit?
OK

Here's the thing.

I have never (and I mean never), found Leopard print, attractive on a woman...
