Personally I love the hat - looks like a Stetson as issued to the Canadian mounted troops who served in the Boer War.

The closest to it today would, I guess, be the Stetson Campaign or Ranger hat, or perhaps the “Lemon Squeezer” worn by some New Zealand forces?

Do you know why the tall hats went out of fashion? Because you can’t drive a car wearing one. That did in the Mexican sugar loaf hats, which I always thought were cool.
