Big Cats?

Agreed, definitely a puma.
Not the sort of thing that you want to meet armed only with a 14' salmon rod as I was when I was up there at the time she was caught.

Interesting how the big cat stories pop up again and again. Most, probably have straight forward explanation. The increase in oversized crossbred fancy cats may be responsible for some sightings. Many of the pic's of sheep killed by cats look exactly like ewe's eaten by badgers to me.
People query how with all the lamping these "big cats" are not seen more often? lamping ground for foxes only shows you the ones that look at you, brock with us don't look much at all, and usually barrel off on there own business. You would think thermal may increase any sightings if cats were about. Our local village has badgers, otters pine martens and the occasional beaver plodding through it but 99% of residents would not be aware of this or believe you if you told them.
I suspect many of us , if they saw a big cat, while out lamping, would flatten it and stay shtum. I don't see any advantage to publicising a sighting , you will either be thought of as a crank or liar , better to know what you know and keep it to yourself.

3 years ago while out stalking with a friend in the Ivybridge area of Devon we both witnessed a large black cat bolt from some rough ground in to our field as dog walkers disturbed it. Had I been on my own I would have questioned what I saw but we both agreed it was 100% a panther due to the long tail and black coat. Needless to say I have been ridiculed ever since by work colleagues!!!
