Blaser carbon shooting sticks

You'd think for the not inconsiderable sum being asked for all these 'premium' grade sticks the manufacturers would put a little more in-the-field research into their development.

Bits of sticky tape, cut down cycle inner tubes to fix problems that should have been engineered out at the factory just serves to prove what a gullible and easily satified lot we are! And as for rifles 'leaping' from their cradle I'm simply gob-smacked!

Blaser should send me a set of sticks and I'll explain exactly where they've got it wrong and more importantly how to address the shortcomings.

K
I said the same I’d break them within the month!

I’ve found B&Q garden cane quad sticks particularly useful and cost effective for the last twenty years of stalking

They’ve never bent, allowed me to take shots at close and far ranges and multiples when culling allowing sometimes a 360 degree track by lifting one sides leg and turning as the animal circumvented me and a co worker

The elastic vacuum bands have been replaced with vetinary tubing that’s as good as it was when my friend carried out running repair to the failed vacuum belt

In all damn good value at sub 20 quid

I recon a pound a year is worthwhile for the return

😘

To people bitching that the sticks are coming loose, just tighten them down with a bit more force. I’ve now learned that and have no worries.
The main issue for me is the noise of the sticks, these are defo a mk1 version that need improvements. Also the annoyance that 308 and 300wm jump off the front pin :(
Since the shooting show I’ve used mine on average twice a week, possibly more, I’d like to say I’ve given them a good test.

Having read through this post I still can’t determine what’s better.
Viper flex elite or Blaser carbon shooting sticks?
(Viper flex journey are too expensive so discounted them)

I’ve only used blaser ones and use them two/three times a week. They have their flaws but the pan function is great!

I've had a go with these recently, my only comparison is the primus trigger stick. I definitely preferred the blaser but would love to give the Viper sticks a run

Has anyone tried the newer / 2.0 version of the Blaser sticks, and, if so, has Blaser rectified some of the issues?

M
I haven’t tried them but I gather they have provision for a cord to set the maximum distance between the yokes and some height marks on the legs.
Think they have added some marks to the legs to give you half a chance of levelling them properly

I gather the marks are intended so that you can repeat a previous height setting. I don’t get the problem you have with levelling them.

To adjust them I slack all four lock rings, hold the legs together with both feet on the ground, extend or retract all of them at the same time until the rear yoke is at chin height, then go round tightening all the lock rings up.

To make sure you don’t disturb the alignment or build in a twist, always grip the thicker outer tube and turn the lock ring. If you turn the lock rings while gripping the thinner tube you are likely to twist the inner tube within the outer one.

Gripping the thin tube may be why some people don’t manage to get the lock rings tight enough?

Any updates on the sticks? I was focused on buying Viper-Flex Styx Pro carbon because I only successfully used Viper-Flex, and was recommended going for the lightest. Pro carbon are 0.85 kg vs 0.985kg of Blaser shooting sticks 2.0, so not much difference. However, Blaser seem to be notably cheaper (about 60% of Pro carbon) and has pistol grip at the front, does it help with aiming, or Viper's wide front support is more convenient? Maybe there are other good options to stabilise the gun in the field? Thanks

I have had Seeland, Mojeller, Viperflex and now Blaser V2. I have added a Viper 5th leg and modified the Blaser spigot so it fits the Spartan adapters on all my CF rifles - candidly, this is the best set-up going and is used weekly to great effect. The tracking is superb and the addition of the magnet in the spigot holds my .308 on the pivot. The fifth leg is a stiff sliding fit and this means quick and easy set up when needed (not always used especially when speed of shot is required) especially on sloping ground or where conditions require an an extended wait. I cannot recommend them more highly.

I have used the blaser V2 for over 12months and I have used them to assist in the shooting of a lot of deer, they are light weight very stable and the panning is great, I have also put a 5th leg(carbon) on for longer shots and that makes it benchrest stable, I haven’t really got a bad thing to say about them

I have a pair of the MK1 version, I love them, I set up the height and leave them well alone - get chucked in the back of the truck, and left there until needed, no holes to whistle in the wind, light and easy to carry, the ability to pan is great. The only mod I have made is a web strap so they can’t open too far and miss the forepeice of the rifle

I lent a set while I was up north called at Bushwear on the way home got a set I would not stalk without them

May I ask as to the source of the fifth carbon leg (manufacturer)? TIA

See my post #113 above - I have both aluminium (Styx Elite) and carbon (Styx Journey) Viperflex 5th legs. The Carbon 5th leg still has aluminium tube in it and having got the aluminium leg a perfect fit I haven’t fitted the Carbon one so the one in the photos is the Styx Elite single - there is actually only 25 gm difference.

I bought the mk2 pair and love them. I do a bit of rabbit control work here in NZ and noticed that as I was no longer using a lamp and had gone full thermal the rabbits didn’t freeze and hide as much as they used to so one had to constantly adjust more. I used trigger sticks with a Davros head for a while but never fell in love with it. Held off buying these due to price for a year or more and am kicking myself now. With these you can clean up a group no bother from one spot keep walking. I routinely hit rabbits at 150+m now which I wouldn’t have even attempted before.

The only downside I can see so far is that they don’t shorten enough so you can’t setup in a seated position like you can with a tripod. But the flip side is that I’m 2m tall and they’re plenty high enough for me at full height.
