Blaser K95

Is there any difference in scope height between the blaser ring mounts and the rail mount system. Just interested because a rail mounted scope would be a special order l would imagine down here in NZ ?
If Swarovski, and Zeiss off rail scopes in NZ, I’m sure Blaser, will offer the mounts, plus there are alternatives.

Personal choice, but the beauty of a rail scope, is firstly, you have much more adjustment to achieve eye relief on the Blaser, but also, it’s so easy to fit, where it automatically levels the reticle.

If i was going to spend money on a K95 or Merkel K5, i would probably go for Prinz Waffen

I had a good look at one of these at the Jagd & Hund a couple of years ago. Designed by the gentleman who did the K95, but this his further development without bean counters in the way.

It feels as if carved from solid steel and walnut by hand. Strong enough to take 338 Lapua Magnum, but the action is scaled to the cartridge. Same sort of money as the Rigby Highland stalker.

The correct scope for these rifles is either the Swarovski 3-9x36, or the Schmid & Bender Summit 2.5-10x40 both on a 1” tube.

I took a Chamois last year at 300m with a long barreled K95 in 300 wm with a Swarovski Z6i 2.5 - 15 x42. Bullet was a 100gn driven very fast. Rifle was equipped with a bipod and muzzle break - both very much out of place.

For those wondering about a rimmed cartridge over a rimless cartridge, the tapered case and rim is worth it :thumb:

Sorry about the heavy breathing, just getting over CV19 and had a long stalk

For those that need to see a stutzen rimless cartridge in quick order put through its paces

8k plus vat for the Prinz. They do look nice. Certainly priced well when you look at the top end K95.
If only the bank balance would allow it.

Great To hear all these positive remarks on such a great rifle I have owned mine for about fifteen years now Was supposed to go to Scotland on the hinds this weekend bloody COVID so light to carry on the hill they are just a classic rifle that will never go out of date

Now you lot have had five pages of free willy stroking, I'll point out that these are ridiculous rifles for a list of reasons so long, you'll stop reading after 10 inarguable one liners.

The very fact that someone had to suggest you go stalking with a protective sheath for your rifle.... that's the first one. Really????

Until you hunt with a kipplauf then you really have been missing out.

It also means never leaving the bolt or the magazine at home!

Like the straight stock on it compared to the more usual hogs back.

Me too. I had to special order it in 2003 as the UK was viewed as wanting European styles not US. The new straight comb stock IMHO is a rather unhappy mix of European (with the Germanic style cheek piece and sharply angled pistol grip) with US and looks very clubby.

I sort of agree with Dodgy Knees - I don't use mine as a "serious" rifle. I find it too light, I even found it too light in the Alps. Rather it's something that make me smile. If I stalked for personal venison and the odd trophy it would work very well and I will be using it exclusively in this lock down. A bit like my single speed mountain bike it puts a smile on my face and there's nothing wrong with that.

this may be controversial... but does anyone have informed view of why these rifles cost so much? They seem relatively simple (untrained eye and i'm admitting it before we go bananas).

Blaser / Merkel are made in Germany premium brands which I get. However, I would have thought manufacturing the K95 would be easier than a R8..? Parking expensive options aside (wood, engraving and so on) I wonder if it's just a low volume premium. Or just a supply / demand cost i.e. people are willing to pay. Basically, I would be interested what the cost of manufacturing is on one of these vs. their other cheaper models.

To be honest I wondered myself what all the fuss was about ..... then I picked one up and dismantled and reassembled it, the ergonomics and engineering and fit just shouts at you so I then ordered one, its one of those “good for the soul“ moments when you just know its right and want one, I shoot every day with a less expensive rifle but when I want to smile I take out the K95, it just lifts you

@dodgyknees you are such a spoon (stirring device)

The U.K. is different to NZ in so many aspects. The opportunities for the average man are diminished. Multiple shots are not a realistic option.

Firearms ownership is something you have to work for.

The kipplauph is a gracious rifle to take to into a hunt for a single purpose.

Every one can kill stuff when in demand.
