Blaser R8 or Custom build

Having wasted money on both I keep on buying Blaser !! Best hunting rifle out there in my opinion and keeps up with custom rifles if shooting targets far out.

I blame Scotch Egg for my diminished wallet

When I saw his R8 Pro success at Tiff's a year ago - I knew it was the rifle for me

It has not dissapointed

i know the feeling, I used one on the Range and am sorely tempted to get one. Trouble is the one I used was a .308 and my Sako is .270.......I really enjoyed the feel of the rifle and the round.

Yes. I have had other custom guns so I think a Blaser is the way to go this time. Looking at calibres as I'm buying a place in France (hopefully)and would be looking to hunt over there.

On most adverts for Bläser the shop says it's unable to advertise anything other than the rrp. Is there a deal to be done on the R8 or are the prices fixed?

Well in that case I would drop the 7mm-08 idea, if you need to buy ammo there it won't be that easy same as it isn't here. Well not when you compare to 7x64 or, the new hot rounds in France since the military round ban was repealed, the 30-06 and 308.
7x64 isn't easy to get factory for here but 30-06 and 308 are.

Not sure what price you're getting K95's for down under but up here there wouldn't be any saving of money buying one over an R8, that's for sure!

I don't understand why saving money over an R8 is a concern. A K95 is a different animal & an absolutley superb performer. Every bit as good as any of the very best custom rifles I've ever seen/ used. All of which are far too heavy anyway. An R8 is a very useable rifle, but not in the same league as a K95.

In any event wood selection is an option and the style totally traditional. Brilliant piece of kit a K95 & rare enough to hold good S/H value...not that I plan to sell mine! :tiphat:

Because he said in his post, save your money and buy a K95. My point was nothing to do with them being good rifles, simply that for there to be a saving, then prices down under must be a lot less than we have up here.....

I meant you might have to save a bit more to buy one or you jump on a cheaper second hand one the minute it pops up in the right calibre like 3006.

The bottom line is you can buy a rifle made up of bits ordered off the internet and put together by some bloke in a shed, or you can buy a rifle designed on the most sophisticated software available, designed by the best firearms design engineers money can buy, built in a factory with machining and engineering capabilities at the leading edge of what is available today, and with all the bits built with the sole intention of them working together.

That's a Sako then....

Semi custom every time, but I like something a bit different, I home load and enjoy experimenting.

A mate of mine took delivery of a 7mm08 using a second hand Kimber Montana action, a #2 Lija barrel the 'smith had on the shelf and a carbon stock last year. It weighs under 6Lb, shoots 1/2 MOA, lovely to carry about all day and was under £2.5k. Great example of what can be done.

All mine are semi custom based on Rem 700 actions and all shoot exceptionally well. I have a couple I can switch barrels on and play with stock shapes on a half regular basis, not worried about messing with an expensive branded rifle. Not limited to manufacturers favourite chamberings I have been able to experience some of the most accurate, 6.5 Lapua, 280AI and 22BR.

It suits me but I can understand why it wouldn't suit others.
