Bloody boots !!

Was going to buy my Wife some Mendel Burma’s .
Went in Go Outdoors Derby to try size.
The Rand on the display boots were already cracked ! I pointed it out with the shoe assistant who explained it was because they had been tried on and dropped 🤣
I said they are designed for walking over rough terrain and moors if they can’t handle being dropped and tried on how are they supposed to last ?
He was desperately trying to sell me a pair of boots , but I asked why I would trust him if he didn’t have the integrity to scrap the damaged pair

I think no membrane and definitely no lining is a massive advantage. According to my phone, I walk about 18,000 steps a day. After 2-3 days maximum, any lined boots are soaking wet and I think with Lundhags, there is absolutely no disadvantage. I did have one pair that caused my feet to run with sweat constantly.

It is disappointing how many boots fall apart after less than a year. I have had several pairs that didn’t last two months. The William Lennon boots were the only ones I have had that lasted years, but they did leak and eventually the stitching rotted out, but that was after six years of hard use.

A friend of mine swears by the Adidas German police boots. I have never tried them myself though.

My wife used to have Meindles but recent ones haven’t lasted well at all.

Changed from the dovres because I heard bad stories. I now have the zamberlands to n similar style. I find them a far more comfortable boot, even the laces are better quality, kind of non slip.

I have just bought a pair of zamberlan to try I have also a pair of gronnel savannah. Gronnels have been fantastic and highly recommend them to anyone

I have got through a lot of boots. Last pair fell apart after 8 weeks. The most reliable I have found are:

1. Lundhags shell (unlined) boots - very expensive though and take a bit of breaking in. Totally waterproof in my experience

2. William Lennon boots - again take a lot of breaking in and aren’t totally waterproof. Very good boots but I would say Lundhags are better

3. Rogue boots- soft, comfortable, reasonably priced and well made. Not waterproof in any way though. Definitely a summer boot.
Totally agree with this. I have a pair of Lundhags shell boots (Professional II) winter wet and muddy weather, and Rogue boots for the summer.

Replaced my Dover extreme with a new pair .
Bought in February but not used until the season kicked off
Rand is already disintegrating so they are of back to the shop today

What the hell do I replace them with ? Opinions are so varied it’s unreal.
My last pair of Dovre lasted 15 yrs then I sold them on !
Had the same 😭

I sometimes wonder when I see a post about boots not lasting more than a year. They are worn almost everyday. A picture is put up and the pair of boots in question are bone dry and cracked. Don't look as if they have had any treatment and because they are need everyday, probably dried near a radiator. I have a pair of Lowas . Bought more than ten years ago Treat them right and dry them properly. I was on the hill yeterday and still good boots. Admittedly I have 3 pairs of boots. Once worn and wet (not on the inside) the leather is allowed to dry without a radiator. Then polished AND put on a protector. And a dry pair ready for the morning. I know good boots are expensive, but why not give them a break and get another pair. Then they both last a lot lot longer. J

Have you looked at dedito boots? Mine are a few years old and need minimal maintenance.

Don’t buy any MOD issued boot they are made under licence and arnt the same as the branded pair. MOD issue means cheaply made and contracted to be consumable/disposable to the soldier not to last.

Buy actual Altbergs (or other brand) from their store, I have multiple Sneakers and the Goretex lined Sneaker Aqua is exceptional.

For summer I wear Aku which are fabric and liner less. Comfy as hell, although I’ve managed to bust a lining stitch by being lazy and forcing my foot in. Yet they’re still very comfy. Blood soaks into them though if you have a messy gralloch…

Just about to order some new Alt-berg boots for the bike as the last ones have lasted so well - might be worth a look at their range. Get your money back on the Meindl's first though - that's shocking for boots to fall apart so quickly.....
